You Are Looking Live...at Musburger's Retirement
Broadcasting icon Brent Musburger to end play-by-play duties Jan. 31
I actually liked the guy, except for that whole A-Train thing.
Brent Musburger, one of the most recognized and prominent voices in the history of sports television, will end his play-by-play career with ABC/ESPN at the end of January, it was announced Wednesday.
The 77-year-old Musburger, who brought his folksy delivery to countless games -- most beginning with his "You are looking live" catchphrase -- since entering the national stage in 1975, will call his final game Jan. 31 on ESPN as the Kentucky Wildcats host Georgia at Rupp Arena (9 p.m. ET).
"What a wonderful journey I have traveled with CBS and the Disney company," Musburger said in a statement. "A love of sports allows me to live a life of endless pleasure. And make no mistake, I will miss the arenas and stadiums dearly. Most of all, I will miss the folks I have met along the trail."
I actually liked the guy, except for that whole A-Train thing.

What was the A Train thing?
I always liked him too. He's actually my late uncle's doppelgänger. My late uncle had a very similar look, voice, and personality. Old school Irish Catholic Domer.
About 15-16 years ago, u of m had a running back named Anthony Thomas. Musburger nicknamed him A-Train. Musburger shouted A-Train every time Thomas touched the ball. Very annoying.

So many of these old school broadcasters had something extra about their deliveries that, over time, became so endearing. Very few of their replacements are anything but boring, water-flavored play callers. See also; Joe Buck; Kenny Albert, etc.

Never heard of him or watched that there, except the few times MSU was on.

Worked with him a few times, seemed nice enough I guess, but I never could be a fan of the White Skinned Storm Trooper.

Re: You Are Looking Live...at Musburger's Retirement
My Brother-in-law lives in Missoula Montana and flies a lot. Musburger has a home in Montana and my brother-in-law has flown with him several times and even been seated next to him twice. He said the first time, Musburger was jovial and talkative. Couldn't have been nicer. The second time, Musburger was a sullen dickhead. Like they had never met before. Sounds like the guy is bi-polar.
I don't give a shit- but that's my cool story, bro.

Went to Delucas last time I was in Lansing and they have a pic of him with a pie. Remember at Bilbos he autographed a pizza box that they had over the bar and it said something about how great the pizza was. Dude sure did like Pizzerias in the greater Lansing area.

Back in the 80s, he was in Dooley's a day before a game having lunch. He hired his server after she told him she was graduating with a telecom degree. No idea how long she lasted with him or CBS.
Also, could've been the Roadhouse. I don't remember.
