The Clinton campaign should've notified the FBI just like Gore's team did in 2000. No question about that.
However, it's at least understandable why Ukraine wanted HRC and not Donnie; self-preservation will usually prompt those feeling threatened to do what's necessary to survive. Paul Manafort wasn't just the Trump campaign chairman; he also previously worked for the former head of Ukraine who was working with Putin to destabilize the country.

The first clue about the Trump campaign was initially naming Paul Manafort as a manager. Manafort is no political rookie. He worked for Prrsidential campaigns since '76 for Ford, then Reagan, Dole and Bush1. After that he worked as a lobbyist.

Manafort was at the meeting with Trump Jr. and Kushner. He can't play the "I new at this and dumb as fuck" card like Trump Jr. did.

Kushner is just slimey. He's now had to "correct" his application for his security clearance twice because he keeps remembering things. The last correct was made after the NYT contacted him about the meeting he attended with Manafort and Trump Jr.

The Trump family (at least Donald and the 3 children from wife #1 Ivana along with son-in-law Kushner) are profiteers who are feckless about using their positions as family for personal gain.
