Walton teaches life lessons. His insight is wisdom.
Bilas is just hot air. Throws in some Xs and Os, throws in some stats, gets in a complaint about the NCAA, makes a joke about how he was a shitty player, and then starts over and we cycle through this the whole game. Fuck Bilas.
I'd read a self help book if I want life lessons, thanks.

Meh Bilas is overrated. He’s pretty much a typical by the book announcer if you ask me.
Bill Walton is a very intelligent dude, and he’s much more interesting.

Yup. Bilas is a square there to cash a check. Awful cliches and jokes we have heard since the 90s. Walton is the swill and Bilas is the rcmb. Not shocking that pylon prefers Bilas.

Bilas is predictable. It’s almost scripted. Walton is unpredictable. I have no idea what weird shit he will say. It’s a bit of an act, but he is also genuinely strange.
Well put.
People that think Walton is an idiot aren’t listening. Dude went to Stanford law school and he’s in the NBA HOF and the Grateful Dead HOF. He’s a huge nerd that’s read tons of books, watched tons of basketball and done tons of drugs at Dead shows.

It means nothing relative to him announcing our game. Unless you think that donut was cool.

It’s impossible to seperate the Grateful Dead from Bill Walton.
Also, I think there’s a lot of parallels between the harsh critics of the Grateful Dead and Bill Walton:. The haters are uptight, angry, dismissive, judgemental about drug use and completely ignorant of the talent on display.

I usually get a little high before heading over to the stadium for home football games, still not a huge fan of Walton. I'm not saying I hate his style, I just would rather the color guys focus more on the game at hand.

I thought the interview with Knight went a bit long, but understand why. He's revolutionized how the game is marketed and put billions into players, coaches, announcers pockets, they were paying tribute to him.
As far as announcing, I leave the sound up for basketball because it's always a background thing for me where I'll look up once in a while. As far as football, I've turned the sound down when the announcers drive me crazy because I pretty much watch every play as it's happening.

Fair enough, the majority of the comments against him are ‘he’s so high right now’ they make it sound like it’s a bunch of gibberish he’s spewing out. He’s well read and got into Stanford Law School. He said a bunch of positive things about Michigan State last night that lead me to believe he’s actually really well informed about MSU and it’s rich history. You’d never hear Jay Bilas or Dakich outline Steve Smiths donations to MSU or the impact MSU had on integration in college sports.
I get it that Walton isn’t for everyone but there’s far more substance in his announcing than his harsh critics will let you believe.

This is a pretty solid answer. Walton isn't everyone's cuppa but you can tell he puts in the homework before he does a game and I respect that.

I think people not talking about our role in integrating college sports is on us. We should be making a bigger deal out of that and make sure people know that story, but for whatever reason we don’t.

Well let’s build a statue or something. God knows they love putting that kind of stuff on tv. That’s more what I mean- that we have to push the story. Maybe get them to talk about that instead of how Izzo is friends with a retired football coach.
