I love when the big dogs get taken out early like this, but I'd rather have had Germany win, which would have made Mexico one of the bigger choke jobs in World Cup history.

Yeah, as I was saying....MiamiSpartan wrote:If I had to guess, I'd say Mexico and Germany in Group F, and both games in Group E will be draws.
I wouldn't recommend for anyone to trust my picks though. Â There's a reason I don't bet on soccer.

Brazil and Switzerland move on, so no real drama in that group today.

S. Korea defeating Germany, thus allowing Mexico to progress to the next round--this video of Mexican fans bumrushing the Korean embassy in Mexico City to thank the ambassador personally, and forcing him to down tequila shots is so beautiful and perfect.

Re: tSwill Official World Cup Thread
Hey y’all folks just so you know, if you pick a reason to root for a team week in week out going forward it can be just as awesome as this tournament except it happens all year and the soccer is a much higher quality. It doesn’t even matter what reason you pick. If you’ve found a player you like, then follow their team. (Preference for English teams only because all of their games are on nbc and it’s easier.)
Cards on the table is that it was the last World Cup that finally made me pick a team because I didn’t want it to end. It’s even better when you yourself are actually invested in if your team wins. It took me about a year afterward to totally buy in after a year of casually watching their games. Just to level your expectations. You gotta commit, you won’t buy into real fandom overnight.

Nah. Play the game that’s in front of you. Prove you’re the best in the world. Nobody has ever won the World Cup by trying to lose a game on purpose because they’re scared of competition in the subsequent rounds (citation needed)

England will probably lose (intentional or not), then they can then luck their way further in the tournament and thus return their over-inflated sense of relevance that was finally waning after 50 years of delusion.

Re: tSwill Official World Cup Thread
Another interesting thing about England-Belgium today is that if the draw, the tie breaker will be based on the fewest yellow/red cards.
So they don't have to try to lose to come in 2nd. They could draw and hack the living shit out of each other, especially the second string players that might play today, but otherwise won't likely play in other games.

A lot of people watch the LLWS too. It's a nice regional niche sport I guess. Kind of like professional cornhole. Now those guys have some skill.

Senegal lose out on advancing because they have more yellow cards than Japan.

big fan of Belgian cycling.. and home of the Mur de Huy - it's a climb on certain cycling routes (including a stage of le Tour a handful of years ago) - that is only about 120 meters long.. but it is likely the steepest climb of any climb in professional cycling.steveschneider wrote:I love a good Belgium waffle but I do not like their soccer team.
from what I recall, it's about a 25% gradient at one turn.
