Recommend me a good work boot
These will be for yardwork and gardening. Something that can get wet and muddy and keep my feet dry and not fall apart after one or two seasons.
I had been wearing my dad’s old Herman Survivors, a basic leather boot that has held up very well, even 35 years after I got them after he died. My wife accidentally donated them. From what I’ve read, Herman’s is now owned by Walmart and the quality has dropped way, way down.
The other boots I got from him are a pair of soft leather Red Wings, and those things are really cool but I don’t want to use those as work boots anymore, for sentimental reasons, mostly because I remember my dad wearing them when I was a kid.
I see Carhartt now has a line, but I have no idea about the quality. They might have just bought a generic line out of China and slapped a Carhartt label on them.
So maybe Red Wings again, or Danner. Any others to consider?

I have Keen winter boots and they’re excellent. I didn’t realize they made work boots, too. I’ll bet they’re even comfy to wear when I’m knitting doilies, too.

Funny. Still have a pair of Herman Survivors my parents bought for me winter term freshman year. Really good boots that, with regular care (bear grease), never failed to keep my feet dry. Haven't worn them in probably 25-30 years. Discovered a mouse in the basement at the old house had transferred the contents of a bag of dry kitty chow into one of the boots 10-12 years ago.
Got a pair of Red Wing 6" Irish Setters back in January. Beautiful boots. Light weight...aluminum toe satisfying steel toe requirements in customer plants, waterproof, and certified for electrical work. Even better, got to expense them on the company tab. No fucking way I'll ever take them out in the slop the Herman's went through.
Herman's are size 10.5. PM me if interested

Hard to go wrong with Red Wings.. I also have a pair of Timberlands I wear pretty much all the time that are very durable and comfortable.
Remember, very few things are truly "waterproof" - my advice would be to go for durability, comfort with a good sole and treat them periodically to be "water resistant", if that's what you need.
Steel toe = obvious.
Oh - I also have a pair of Dr Marten work boots that might be the most comfortable boots I own. Think I paid about 120 for them years ago.
