Bernie is the progressive Trump. I'm good, thanks.

I watched Bernie Sanders on Joe Rogan last week. Nothing about him reminded me of Donald Trump.

I'm by no means a fan of Bernie but it seems to me like about they only thing he has in common with the racist, bigoted christian sexual predator is that they both have weird hair.steveschneider wrote:I watched Bernie Sanders on Joe Rogan last week. Nothing about him reminded me of Donald Trump.

The zeal (intelligence?) of their followers are similar.
Damn the truth... Cause My team is the best team.
I voted for Bernie last time in the primary because I thought the dems forgot their progressive roots. Wont this time.

yeah, seems like a similar cult, just at the other end of the spectrum.AvgMSUJoe wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote: I'm by no means a fan of Bernie but it seems to me like about they only thing he has in common with the racist, bigoted christian sexual predator is that they both have weird hair.

Is being the progressive Trump like being the violent Gandhi?
I guess I'm just missing the similarities. Beyond both noticing that WaPo doesn't write nice things about them, how are they alike? Also, fuck Jeff Bezos.
Yeah, they both have some number of passionate supporters. But I don't think the Bernie Bros' passion manifests in at all the same way that MAGA fervor does.

He's the same thin skinned person who thinks he's above criticism. He appears to get very irritated with mild criticism. See the letter he sent to ThinkProgress after they dared publicly criticize him over his wealth, for which he told us all to go "write a book" if we want to be millionaires.
He's the same "I'm right, you're wrong" person who, if in office, has little interest in working with Congress if he can't get exactly what he wants. He really likes to lecture people in the debates and it's pretty annoying considering he's a senator from Vermont where the most difficult politics he has had to navigate is keeping the maple syrup industry and Ben and Jerry happy.

He's the same guy who isn't supporting incremental changes to Obamacare because he wants medicare for all... Kind of cutting off yer nose to spite yer face if you ask me.
Yeah universal single payer would be great... but that's no reason to punt on fixing what we got. Seems like a hissy fit.

I also agree with Bernie, I think the press does dump on him. Criticize away but most news rooms suck these days.
Take note seems like Biden's coverage this year is on his senior moments and his gaffes. This is the 2020 version of 'her emails' meanwhile Trump has unbelievable gaffes every day and nowhere near the same attention on them.

Re: Who said it? Bernie or Trump?
2 people can be similar in one or two aspects, and very different in every other aspect, of course. Both positioned themselves as anti-status quo outsider candidates. While opposite ends of the political spectrum, that challenge of the status quo caused a significant number of people to like both of them (whether the actions of Trump actually did challenge the status quo, or was just lip service in the election is a different matter). In fact, significant enough to swing the entire election.
Deepest apologies to Travis for discussing 2016, but 20% of Bernie voters in the primary did not vote for Hillary in the general, and 12% of Bernie voters actually voted for Trump. In fact, in each of the three states that decided the election (Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania), the number of Bernie voters that voted for Trump far exceeded Trump's margin of victory by a factor of more than 2-to-1 in each case. And I've repeated ad nauseum how Hillary largely ignored these states, especially Michigan and Wisconsin despite losing to Bernie in the primary.

Listen, I'm just saying I think he is really thin skinned and rather condescending in the debates.

The score card that matters:
Racist: Trump YES ----- Bernie No
Sexual Predator: Trump YES ----- Bernie No
Lies to the working class: Trump YES ----- Bernie No
Servies the billionaire classe: Trump YES ----- Bernie No

We all agree on this. If Bernie got the nod the vast majority of the other's supporters would jump in a heartbeat v trump. As Miami posted... not necessarily true going back the other way.
