Dude asleep behind the wheel of his Tesla cruising down the I-5
Know it's supposed to be "the future" but I find it ridiculous.

btw...how do you post a tweet here if not on twitter? I see the twitter thing in the format/options bar but couldn't get it to work.

Sleeping behind the wheel is the only reason I want a self driving car.

You need to think this through. Will probably be 15-20 years, or more, before all cars/trucks will be high tech enough to get along on roads of uncertainty.Rocinante wrote:Sleeping behind the wheel is the only reason I want a self driving car.
Besides...you're sitting on a super volcano that may take us all out before then. You and your two escalators would be the first to go.

Yeah, I think the only way that self driving cars work is if they either have their own roads or everybody is forced to get them. Can’t predict the stupidity of people.

Like auto pilot, there will be a place and use for a self driving car. But just like on a plane, you want the pilot to be able to take control and handle it in certain situations. There has to be some type of rules for when you can and when you can’t use it.

As much as I’d love to, I’m not sure I could trust a self-driving car on Michigan roads, considering most of the time the painted lines are worn away, especially on the sides. That’s not even taking into account winter road conditions.

Winter conditions would probably put the vehicle into crawl mode for safety seasons, causing your normal 5 minute trip to the grocery store to take 20 minutes and take away the fun of fishtailing when the opportunity is there.tGreenWay wrote:As much as I’d love to, I’m not sure I could trust a self-driving car on Michigan roads, considering most of the time the painted lines are worn away, especially on the sides. Yup. Not to mention it would probably stop altogether when it senses a couple of the neighborhood teens grabbing bumper rides when the streets are slippery. That’s no fun.

Bumper hitching was fun as fuck. When conditions were right we'd tow each other around the sub.tGreenWay wrote:The Pantry wrote:Winter conditions would probably put the vehicle into crawl mode for safety seasons, causing your normal 5 minute trip to the grocery store to take 20 minutes and take away the fun of fishtailing when the opportunity is there.

Looks like the Model S was doing a pretty good job in that video.
Does it only work on the highways? It can't see red lights, right?

I'd be shocked if we are driving in 15 years.

Agree. I love to drive. But I also like the idea of being able to check emails on my way to work or take a nap on the way home. I want this technology to work so I can do both.

The only time I really feel safe in a vehicle is if I'm driving it. Fuck technology.y2kMgrad wrote:The Pantry wrote:They'll have to pry the steering wheel out of my wrinkly dead fingers.

The option to not drive may be there in 15 years, but people will still drive. Â My boys are mid 20's and one is really into cars. Â Sometimes has scared the hell out of me (took me for a ride in a Mustang GT500 that had been tuned to 800hp at the wheels) but he's a pretty good driver and loves the thrill of high performance vehicles...the adrenaline rush. Â Doubt he'll ride in a johnny cab often the rest of his life unless the libs manage to pass laws making driving illegal.Nordic wrote:The Pantry wrote:

He took a test drive at Lamborghini when he was 19. Â Watch full screen and pay attention to the speedo near the upper right inside the steering wheel. Â He's hooked on performance cars.

Is everything that is wrong with your life because of the libs?

Everything wrong with the world is because of the libs, Pylon. Libs libbing it up with their lib ideas and their lib libbing libification.
