Big Ten West might be a better fit for him.

My take is two fold:
Fickell knows he’s peaked at Cincinnati and knows the school’s move to the Big 12 means the football schedule is tougher going against schools with more resources than Cincinnati.

Look back at 2020 and Fickell was 46, had a great roster for 2020, may have still held out hope of returning to Columbus and was thought to be a possible successor to Kelly at ND.  

3 seasons later Ohio State looks like they are sticking with Urban Meyer protege  43 yr old Ryan Day and when Kelly made the surprise move to L$U ND moved Marcus Freeman, their 36 year old DC to HC.

This weekend Nebraska hires 47 yr old Matt Rhule. Fickell realizes time is running out for a Big Ten job and no one in the conference is hiring 50 year olds.

Yeah, I mean if your gonna go to a power five you might as well do it with a million dollar raise. Plus two conference losses pretty much guarantees you an appearance in the big ten championship game 2 out of every 3 years.

Well except the B1G is adding two new teams and reorganizing the divisions.

Yeah they keep saying that. They'll probably push Illinois and Purdue east and add UCLA and USC. It'll still be a two loss division.
