IIRC, it was widely panned when it first came out. Probably because there was a big buildup to its release and it became a victim of its own hype. Once I finally saw it, I thought it was pretty good. It’s been getting time on the pay channels recently and I keep stopping to watch and it holds up 25 years later.

Yeah I think people were against Cosner as he had a string of hits and people expected the world. Some people have also complained that it follows sexist (women are all weak) and racial (no minorities survived the apocalypse) stereotypes. But I find it simple entertainment--and Jeanne Tripplehorn does something for me.

Forrest Gump should be on the list. I watched the second half of it last night when it was on. It is funny watching it in German. The Germans do not seem to get many of the jokes as many jokes are pop cultural/historical references.

Just reporting facts. Wikipedia tells me The Postman lost $60 million, and Waterworld lost $90 million.

Waterworld released in '95. The Postman in'97.
