Like most of you, I can still rattle mine off without having to think about it. It surprised me that it sprang to mind right away when seeing this thread, despite me not even thinking about the number in 25 years.
Biggest mistake MSU ever made.
You must have been really attached to the old number system without the letter at the beginning.
Oh wait, you probably mean changing to semesters. Yeah, I'm glad to have at least experienced the awesomeness of Spring semester one year, but then to have it ripped away sucked ass. I knew what I was missing, and the 1 week or so of warm weather in late April or early May was just a tease.

And the letter and last number were added when I was a Sr, I think?

Yep. Can confirm.

I had a history class where the exam question was like 10 words and I filled 2 blue books and took the entire time.

Russian Revolution class - I started with "Alexander took Russian to the scrap heap of history" ... was good enough BS for a pass ...

In Engineering we got a semester for each term, so over 4 years we got 6 years of what others got.

Told this story before. Climbed from floor-to-floor inside the walls of both Holden & Wilson to knock on the back of medicine cabinets to get someone's attention. When they opened the door I talked to them while peaking through the razor slot. They were always freaked out. Good times!Dendrobates wrote:tGreenWay wrote:

I had suite mates who were obsessed with TeeVee reception on Hubbard 12. They climbed out the stairway windows to the roof to get into the elevator roof access and split into the building TV antenna to get better reception. Then they discovered that taking the elevator access door off the hinges was a better option.

I was thinking more of having 5-6 weeks of coeds in skimpy clothes, countless hours playing beach volleyball, basketball, softball, soccer, etc., and hitting up huge parties on pleasant spring evenings.
But that engineering thing sounds nice, too, I guess.

There were coeds at MSU?
Engineering joke -
Would you rather have a mistress or wife?
Accountant - Wife, taxes are better with marriage
Lawyer - Mistress can protect me in court.
Engineer - I can tell the wife I am with the mistress and the mistress I am with the wife and go to the lab.

Second Engineering Joke
A beautiful woman rides her bike up to an engineer, stops, strips and says take me. I'm yours.
The engineer say - cool bike, and rides off on it.

Holden is the youngest dorm.
MSU March Band Drum Major disappeared while living there while I was there.
Major lost love was an RA there.
Maybe the youngest but that dorm felt ancient and sterile back in the mid 70s when I was there for Sports School.

Going by memory again, the ID card had a sticker on the back that would get meals checked off when entering any dorm cafeteria. The Pantry wrote:Pretty sure have my student ID card somewhere here but damn if I know where it is.Floyd Robertson wrote:I swear mine was 6 digits, prefixed with the last digit of the year I started, like 8xxxxx for 1978. However, have my transcript. The number is 07-XXXXX. IIRC the card dropped the leading zero and the hyphen and only showed as 6 digits.
Now, I want to find my ID card to see how much better I looked back then

Husband and I are (unfortunately) the reason food could not be taken outside the cafeteria. We were young and dumb, at the same time, the rule restricts poor kids like us getting some extra food we paid for.
But we used to take apples from Hubbard, got to the 12th floor stairwell, and let them go in between the stairwells to reach to the bottom.
I'm sure the janitors fucking hated us. I feel terrible about it now.
It was shortly after that, rules came about you couldn't carry food outside the cafeteria. Sorry guys

Strangely, I can not only rattle off my student number, but also remember both of my long term girlfriend's student numbers.

Never had to live in the dorms because I commuted from home the first year, then went straight to an apartment. I do, however, remember the names of the dishes you mentioned; Stromboli and Johnny Marzetti. There was a dish that I recall was actually pretty popular, and I think Wisconsin was part of the name. I still have no idea what was in that.
