From the timing of the announcement, hours after ‘Cuse lost in the ACC Tournament it seems to be a peremptory move by Syracuse’s AD.

Boeheim reportedly gave goodbye speech to the team after last regular season game. But when asked Boeheim said he’d leave when the school wanted him to retire.

It appears some at Syracuse didn’t want to give 78 year old Boeheim any time to change his mind.

I think it had more to do with UNC beating ratface in his last 2 games ever and it is something that will eat at him until he dies.
