Argument That Republicans Are Creating the Woke Generation
Republicans have an election problem. They keep losing them, and even when they win, the margins are narrow enough that the party is stuck with a coalition of malcontents that don’t fall in line with the leadership most of the time. But that almost understates the problem.
When it comes to younger voters, what was a slight edge for the Democratic Party turns into a blue-hued massacre. In the 2018 midterm elections, 67% of voters aged 18-29 went for the Democrats. In the 2020 presidential election, 60% of that demographic went to President Biden, and in the 2022 midterms where the “red wave” turned into a red trickle, 63% of the youngest voters went for Democrats.
...
The right clearly believes this is the product of a massive brainwashing campaign. Recently failed Wisconsin governor and never-was presidential candidate Scott Walker, head of the right-wing Young America’s Foundation argued that “radical indoctrination” by the left created this GOP nightmare. This is not an outlier argument for the right. They truly believe that the left-wing views of younger Americans are a product of a dedicated leftist machine.
...
Of course, this is all nonsense.
What is really happening in America is that young Americans are lashing out at the nightmares built by years of conservative policy and rhetoric, because those toxic ideas are making their lives worse.

It's obvious. There's the whole toxic policy thing. Bur there's also education. More Education tends to create more liberals. And it's not part of some massive brainwashing effort, it's part of people just accepting differences. The only thing that is remotely brainwashed into kids are matters of general human decency. Be nice to the new immigrant kid that barely knows English. Share. Don't bully. These are considered brainwashing by the right wing. And what comes of decency and education? Liberal views. All that means is that Republicans are on the wrong side of history. I have to believe good will prevail but it cannot be assumes that it will. Too many people assuming leads to stacked courts with activist right wing judges. They are insidious and must be countered or we continue with regression, bullying, actual indoctrination, etc. Society right now is a spectrum of left vs right, a struggle that moves left or moves right. Right now Republicans are doing anything to push the country right because they were losing ground demographically. Now states like florida and Texas are trying to export themselves and push the society right by any means. More influence means more kids become conservatives, i.e. actual brainwashing. All they actually have to do to win elections is to move themselves a little bit left to capture more of the middle, enough to win. They chose to go the other way and pick up the fringe. That's a big mistake and runs counter to the historical balancing act that is our society.

Re: Argument That Republicans Are Creating the Woke Generation
faced with an evolving demographic, the GOP had two choices: a) broaden their appeal through policy changes or b) drill down on the silly 'culture war' stuff and cling to their base.
they chose "b".
and while it might benefit them in states like Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, etc., folks in states like Michigan know better than to be terrified by a Bud Light can.
I've said it in other threads, but I suspect we're witnessing the Balkanization of the United States. Some states are intent on marginalizing women, minorities, LGBTQ+ communities, children, etc., to consolidate their power and other states, like Michigan, are content with expanding laws and services to represent everyone in the state with love and care.
I remember our old friend Guest bemoaning the "woke generation", parroting the GOP and the mainstream media talking points. With "woke" being a pejorative term for compassion, empathy, inclusion, love and support, one has to wonder which side their jesus would fall on?
regardless.. it doesn't bode well long term for the GOP which, in a lot of ways, is fine for those of us decent folks who were raised to be "woke". The problem is, there are a lot of decent people in the states listed above that are being disenfranchised, denigrated and marginalized in every way imaginable.
It's really sad and I suspect the GOP's jesus is watching.

The girl in my class that got in the most trouble and was having sex in middle school was the one that grew up in the strict Catholic family. Go figure.

They care about liberal “gender ideology” for one reason: Because they want to impose and enforce their own right-wing gender ideology on the public.

"Woke" smdh. I really wish they would stop hijacking words they don't know the meaning of and making them the new boogeyman word. Guess they got all the mileage they could out of CRT and had to move on.

Their intent is to demonize the words so they can make false claims about what "liberals" believe.
