Unpopular opinion but too many teams make the baseball playoffs. It’s a regular season sport. In a sport where anybody can beat anybody any given day it takes 162 games to figure who who the real cream of the crop is. If you let everyone make the playoffs you end up with nonsense winning because again anyone can beat anyone. It cheapens it.

If we still had the right number of playoff teams, 4 per league, Arizona wouldn’t have make it and Texas would have had a play in against Houston

Upon further reflection it probably does mitigate tanking and selling all your pieces to the top 10 teams so maybe in wrong on that

The ‘06 Tigers record was 95-67. The Tigers lost the 2006 World Series 1-4 to the Cardinals.

All you need to do is make the playoffs.
