LANSING — Tom Izzo will be on the August ballot as a Republican candidate for state representative.

If your reaction is why would a Hall of Fame basketball coach run for public office, you're probably thinking of Tom Michael Izzo, the longtime Michigan State University basketball coach.

Tom Gerald Izzo, a candidate for the 74th House District seat that covers Delhi Township and southwestern Lansing, is a General Motors retiree. And a longtime MSU athletics fan.

Didn’t some guy legally change his name to “check this box,” And then ran for office? Or is that an urban legend?

I hear he’s really big into a very strong defense for our country.  He will definitely stress that.  He also wants our economy to show a strong REBOUND.   His problem is that the state of Michigan isn’t really left  wing or isn’t really right wing. Its  more in the CENTER, and we know he’s got a Blindspot for being in a strong position at center

When I worked in politics in grand blanc there was a locally well known rep named Dave Robertson or something like that. The other side ran someone named Steve Robinson hoping to confuse people as to which was the one that they knew and which was the one that was the random asshole. It don’t work, the well known guy won, but the election was closer than it otherwise would have been.
