I'm relieved, because I'm convinced that Mr. Horton was trying to take over the world. Look at this cluster. It is mind boggling, especially the circled area. Keep in mind scale here. Maple is 15 mile, Big Beaver is 16 for those of you not familiar with metro Detroit. Why do they need 4 stores within 1 square mile of each other?

Map is out of date. There's one at 18 & Mound, although I'd like to see it taken out by a meteor.

Good point. They built one there, too. And there are about 6 it seems like along the stretch of Van Dyke from 14 or so to 18. Is that one open yet? I got the map off of Tim's website. He must be a little slow.

Clearly, the Canadians were mounting an attack and then thought better of it.

Coffee is slightly better than McDonalds but way behind Starbucks.
Horton's seems to make it a priority to open shops either right next to or in close proximity to long established Dunkin' Donuts locations. TH built on a tiny parcel next to the DD on Dequindre south of 12 Mile a few years ago. Built another one right next to the DD on Groesbeck south of 12 Mile. The one at 16 & Mound put DD out of business at that corner a couple years ago. The old DD location is now a Hot Spot...I'd feel like a creepy old man stopping there for coffee.

Donuts kinda suck. Takes four or five to feel like I've eaten a meal and at that point I've had way too much sugar and lard.

You're doing it wrong. Go to McDonald's and get the Big Breakfast. Then go get one or two donuts for dessert. Then you'll feel like you've eaten 2 meals.
Win. Win.

I think TH is better than Starbuck's in terms of black coffee. The frozen drinks don't compare though. An Ice Capp is cheaper for a reason. Also, Dunkin Donuts has MUCH better toasted bagels (and they put the right amount of cream cheese) than TH.
My dad drinks TH every day though, it's like his new addiction after he stopped drinking booze.

Tim Hortons' hot chocolate is pretty much the best (that's what they serve in Spartan Stadium, after all). And I love me some TimBits. But I hate Burger King, so they can go frig off, eh.

This, and I'm not even a fan of Biggby coffee. It's just wrong for MSU to have gone with anything else.

Snyder tried to get a Tim Horton's in the state capital building. Took the appropriate amount of shit for it. Dumb Spartan stadium does. Maybe Munn... but not SS.

I like it better than McDs, Speedway or most other quick coffee spots. I refuse to pay $3+ for a caffeine delivery system though.

I'm always pretty reluctant to purchase coffee pretty much anywhere. I was at a McDonalds a few weeks back and got a coffee there - it wasn't as bad as I anticipated. Never had coffee from Speedway, stay away from QD, and the other convenience store coffee items..AvgMSUJoe wrote:

The US has the highest corporate tax rates in the industrialized world, so we better get used to this.
Just as California is losing companies to other states, we'll lose US corps to other nations if we aren't competitive.
But...entitlements are costly. The article I read said there has been an increase in these "inversion" mergers, with dozens more in the works.

Yeah, places like the Cayman Islands used to be tax havens....Now virtually every other country is a "tax haven" compared to the U.S. rates.

And how many Burger Kings can the Cayman Islands support? I'm pretty sure it's not enough for an $11B+ market cap. Bottom line is if you want to enjoy the positives of doing business in the U.S. & making an assload of money, you need to pay your fucking fair share.

What's fair? International companies pay taxes on income they make in other countries and then pay again in the US, just about no other non-craphole country does that, pay your taxes where you make them and that's it.
You can bitch about corporations doing right by their shareholders and watch the trend continue, or we can let our 'representatives' know they should fix that shit.

Except when they leave the money in the other countries...which basically all of them do. If I try to enter the country with a boatload of cash I have to pay taxes on it too.

I agree with what Burger King is doing...they have every right to do that. Companies are leaving California and going to Texas to lower their tax burden. Individuals are doing the same thing...
If Burger King needs to move to another country to retain more of their earnings...more power to them.
If you want to boycott, Burger King, that's your right...but also acknowledge, that you may be making the same types of decisions for your family that Burger King is making.

"Entitlements"? You mean corporate "entitlement" to dirt cheap access to the richest market in the world? Burger Slop and others enjoy access to a federally funded nationwide road network so they can easily ship their frozen crap to thousands of locations. They enjoy access to infrastructure (water, sewage, electricity, gas, etc.) & emergency services (police, fire, medical) that is unmatched in most of the world for countries of comparable size. God forbid they pay for access to such luxuries like the rest of us.
Yes, it's my right to boycott them. Just like Walgreen's. It's also my right to vote...to vote for people who will put a stop to this bullshit.
According to the Supreme Court, companies are people. Well guess what...you wanna leave the country...fine...you lose your citizenship.

The nominal corporate tax rate in the United States (federal, state and city combined) is nearly 40% which is the highest of the 34 member nations of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. In Canada, the nominal corporate tax rate is 26%. We need to find a way to be more competitive.

Except nobody ever pays it. We constantly hear stories of U.S. corporations paying little or no tax. Also, Burger King is now claiming that their actual tax rate will change very little from this move.
In other words...nominal shnominal.

Like I said...want access to the richest market in the world? You have to pay. Kinda like college football. It's a lot cheaper in FCS, but you can't make much either.
