Re: NEVER FORGET
I don't think I'll ever understand the full magnitude of what happened that day and how it has changed the lives of people everywhere. I'll never forget where i was when i heard and I'm sure there aren't many who will.

Re: NEVER FORGET
I hadn't noted the date. Yikes.
Hard to believe it's been 13 years since the momentary big story of the day was Ty Detmer replacing Charlie Batch at Leo's QB

Re: NEVER FORGET
The sky was falling and streaked with blood
I heard you calling me, then you disappeared into the dust
Up the stairs, into the fire
Up the stairs, into the fire
I need your kiss, but love and duty called you someplace higher
Somewhere up the stairs, into the fire
May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love give us love
I heard you calling me, then you disappeared into the dust
Up the stairs, into the fire

yeah, it's late Springsteen - but still a solid tune thematically. Was pretty cool at live shows on The Rising tour.xsanguine wrote:Meh

That 'meh' was meant for America, Bob. Not particularly patriotic and obviously a horrible "American".
I've seen St. Springsteen enough to know the appropriate cheer upon seeing/hearing the Boss is Broooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooose....

I don't think you need to be patriotic necessarily. Not sure if that's your point.

Regardless of your politics, 3000 innocent Americans and other nationalities died that day. It is appalling that some have to bring their personal politics into remembering this awful day.

9/11 is my least favorite holiday. People get all pissed if you don't look like you are about to cry when they start talking about it, or if you don't post your traditional sanctimonious 9/11 Facebook or message board post. And God forbid that you refuse to participate in the time honored 9/11 tradition of "talking about where you were" as if you really give a shit about the "so weird!" story your co-worker has about where they were x amount of years ago today (and holy shit if you point out that you've heard that story several times already.... Someone is sending Obama's drones after you.)

Re: NEVER FORGET
Look, what happened is horrible and I feel bad for the families that lost loved ones that day, but I don't agree with anything that happened afterwards. I personally feel that people took advantage of the situation to manufacture certain reactions in order to gain politically and financially. Pointing out that we've been in a 'perpetual' war with some boogeyman for the last 13 years isn't popular. I still even have a moment before getting on a plane, that I hope no one is going to hijack it, then it fades and I forget about it.
RIP to the victims in the towers.

Look, whether you like it or not you can have reverence for something and remember something without getting in a group circle and singing koombaya. That's all I'm getting at. My personal feeling on the subject are no one else's business and seeing as I'm a fairly non emotional type I would prefer it if people didn't think I'm an asshole for not sobbing every year on the same day.LoneWolfSparty wrote:

At least now we have another group to take the place of Al Queda in order to go to level threat yellow or green or futia. Lets make sure that we keep our eyes on the prize here, and spy on ourselves first. Either fight them for real, or just produce more war machines and hand out more contracts for the military.LoneWolfSparty wrote:

Re: NEVER FORGET
Let me address a few points in this thread.
1. Christmas - I like Christmas. Especially it's fun now with little kids.
1a. Thanksgiving also rocks.
2. Agree, InTen. Need to have the day off for it to count as a Holiday. Except for Valentine's Day and Halloween. Those are definitely holidays, and that's why I went with Valentine's Day. Halloween is cool because I still fondly remember partying on Halloween at MSU and girls dressing slutty. Plus little kids again make it fun for me now.
3. Sweetest Day definitely doesn't count. It's a Hallmark invented holiday so I won't dignify it with that designation.

Re: NEVER FORGET
What political statement are people trying to make with the "never forget" stickers on their vehicles?
Are they stating they are better americans because they defaced their vehicle to denote this tragedy?
Actually, what's with the "RIP Uncle Bobby" stickers too? Is that like the ultimate commemoration for a certain type of moron? Don't understand. Its a ****ing bumper sticker you idiot and we don't know "Uncle Bobby" it means nothing to whom you are advertising too.
