For my fellow gun loving homies.

For as fun as that stock would be, it would be much too expensive in the ammo dept.

Picked up a new carry gun this weekend. Went with a S&W M&P Shield .40. Love how thin and concealable it is.

Um...Bob, you don't want to drag your knuckles while shooting at the scary people. Everyone knows that raising the gun above your head and using a throwing motion while you pull the trigger results in greater accuracy. You should watch more movies like Boyz n the Hood for proper form.

The movie Desperado is an excellent demonstration of shooting technique, in particular the bar scene.

I shot an AR15 (or something very close to one) this summer. Pretty fun. I was way more accurate with it than with a .44 magnum revolver, and at like 5 times the distance. I think my pistol technique is lacking.

The one on the left is the new one and it isn't cheap. The gun was $1800 and the scope was another $700.

Congratulations on your DD it is very top shelf carbine, run it often and keep it clean and wet! You know that ARs run like champs but only if they are clean and lubricated (especially bolt and bolt carrier inside and out).

Anyone shot the Marlin 336SS? If so, thoughts?

I've never owned a gun before and my only experience shooting them was at Boy Scout camp many moons ago. I figure what I'll really start out with is a .22 calibre Ruger handgun and some .22 rifle that strikes my fancy at the time... but after that I wanted to get the Marlin 336. I dig lever action guns for no real particular reason. Maybe Hollywood and Clint Eastwood.

I own a Marlin Golden 39A .22 rifle. It is a tack driver.

I have a 336CS, never been fired.

The Marlin 336 has been around since 1948, descendant Marlin 1893 and over six millions have been produced.  Generally considered a 200 yard brush gun, 300 yards with Hornady Leverevolution.

Okay, okay... well, just based on the info you guys have, as much more educated gun enthusiasts than myself... do you feel it's a good enough firearm for someone just starting out to get (after the .22's, of course)?

Have a Marlin Model 56 .22 that belonged to my mom's dad and a 16 ga Ithaca Featherlight that belonged to my dad's dad. Neither has been fired in over 30 years, though I did clean and oil the shotgun last time I used it. Somehow the clip for the Marlin got lost over the years.

Remember my grandfather saying he liked the Ithaca because it was bottom eject and snow wouldn't get into it while rabbit hunting in the Keweenaw winters

Gun enthusiast co-workers have complained about ammo costs and availability of some calibers over the last couple years.   They all speculate about what drives it with most claiming it's not strictly a supply/demand situation and that there is government conspiracy.

Funny thing is when they can get their hands on something they want they will pay almost anything and skirt store restrictions on how much they can buy, some even getting their wives to go in to make separate purchases.  Forget all the calibers they claimed were limited (.223 maybe one of them?).  Some of them have claimed personal stockpiles of thousands of rounds.

I have nothing against guns but am sometimes amazed at how fanatical some gun owners seem to be.

Yeah I have to agree with you there. I'm actually for de-regulation of a lot of firearm laws (yeah, yeah...) but some of the individuals who are all about guns are just a bit over the top. I don't see it as anything more than a useful tool that needs to be secured from others. I think a lot of those people see them as toys... which probably stems from the fun they get from target shooting (the wannabe commandos).

That's not to say there aren't crazies on the other side, either.... the kind that think they have all the answers and should be able to tell other adults what it is they can and cannot possess and own, but that's a whole other story...

They can't quite figure out that they're the ones creating the shortage when they all rush in and buy as much ammo as they can the minute it hits the shelves.

I would venture to say that most owners of a Marlin 336, it was their first rifle.

LWS,

How many firearms have you considered modifying to fully automatic and how many have you considered modifying to fire 3 shot burst?

Clearly it's illegal and no one should ever entertain the thought of betraying our benevolent government's trust like that... but from a place of technical curiosity...?

Never considered it. I have considered getting the necessary license to purchase them legally though. Plus I have a bump stock for one of my ARs.
