What an incredible playlist but I wish these three songs would have been played if I went to a Stones concert:

they're omitted from the actual setlist or they should've been played?

Stupid word choice by me. Those are probably 3 of my top 6 Stones songs of all time but they obviously weren't played.

oh and "You Can't Always Get What You Want" was a perfectly good tune until that godforsaken "Big Chill" movie had to go and ruin in.. I haven't seen that movie in probably 30 years and I'll still never forgive my parents for dragging me along with them..
okay - back to The Stones..

Awe, shit. I was actually enjoying a Booby thread and then he can't help but bring in Bruce Springstein.

I didn't go to the U2 show but my daughter (sorry Forbin) and I sat on the deck and heard every note.. was pretty cool even though U2 does nothing for me.

I almost flew back for that gig based on my experience for the RS gig. It seriously is a great stadium for a gig.
Did U2 arrive at Lansing airport? Would have been cool to see their motorcade driving across town to the gig.

that's a good question - I suspect they flew into Detroit..steveschneider wrote:

I do know that there was a crew in town for about 2 weeks prior to the show to set up the mammoth stage, lighting, technical system, etc. I remember reading that members of U2's entourage would go to different restaurants/businesses around town during that time and chat with servers, bartenders, workers at convenience stores, etc - those folks not knowing who they were - and then provide them with tickets to the show on the way out.. saw something about that on the news or in the paper.

I think I listened to Pearl Jam most of that day. Probably some U2 as well. I did not make to this geriatric event.

I just can't picture a band that big driving a couple of hours when there is an airport next to the venue.
Had a friend say that he saw Lenny arrive to the Stones gig on the back of a Harley. He was at his peak around then, and went down hill fast after that album.

Just play exile and you don't need to bother with 80 year old guys in concert. Shit, anyone old enough to remember just having to go to the silverdome in 82 because that would be the last time the stones would tour?
Yeah, me too. Iggy Pop and Santana were great too.

I hated shows at the Silverdome. Horrible acoustics. Bass beats and drum beats bouncing everywhere, hither and yon, to and fro, with screaming guitars pitching and yawing so much it sounded like one long note. The only thing that ever sounded good was Elton John on piano when he was really kicking out great music in the mid-to-late 70s. Can't remember if I saw him in '75/6/7. That was a helluva show.

Re: The Rolling Stones Setlist From September 9th, 1994 at Spartan Stadium..
I was 20 yards from the stage for the Stones in '94. The thing I remember most was after the first song, at the point the lead singer usually does some sucking-up to the crowd about how much they love being in (insert your town here), Mick says " Last night we were in New York City.... and tonight...........I'm not quite sure where.." Then the Stones immediately began their next song. During the song you could see Mick talking briefly to a roadie at one point- and it was clear it was like "where the fuck are we?" Then when the the song was over, Mick ( with a big shit eating grin- knowing he fucked-up) yells- " 'ello East Laaahhhnsing !" At which time everyone went crazy.

The only decent sounding stadium show I recall was Pink Floyd. Their sound system probably took at least 10 semis all by itself.

The Division Bell tour by Pink Floyd required 700 tons of steel carried by 53 articulated trucks, a crew of 161 people and an initial investment of US$4 million plus US$25 million of running costs just to stage.
