Spartan Stadium Falcon Cam

Kind of forgot about this until seeing MSULisaP mention it on Twitter, or never new about it at all. At my age, you can never really be sure.

Pull up a chair

Was camping at the Pinery and someone pointed out a peregrine nest in a nearby tree. Heard noise on the roof of the pop-up next morning. One of the young ones was up there pecking at the roof. Stayed there maybe a half hour.

I have not seen the falcon today. Am deeply concerned.

I saw one of them last night for a short while. Pretty sure it’s just shaping and prepping the nest. The future parents might be getting it on in a tree near Bob at this very minute.

Snowing

Does the snow on tSwill count for or against the total snowfall on the falcon cam?

One of them has been hanging out for the last couple days. Don’t know if it’s the male waiting for some action or the female wondering if her man will ever come home.

Mom is hanging out and stationed in a strange position for someone cleaning up the area. She’s either laid an egg or getting ready to drop one.

Thanks for bumping. I was going to check this out today after seeing news about the Macomb county admin building falcon, but got interrupted by work.

Now the nest is empty. Fucking birds, man. They’re not even real.

According to the article one of the fastest birds, hitting 200 mph. Quite agile in midair...

I do think something’s up. She’s in the same odd body posture she was earlier, as if she’s ready to drop, and usually this nest is empty by now. I think she’s feeling it.

She looks anxious. Was busy earlier then took a long flight and now back again.

She keeps a close eye on the camera at dark. No idea what night lighting they're using for the camera but she seems to sense it.

Something’s definitely up, as in she knows she’s going to pop soon. I’ve been checking regularly and I’m pretty sure this is the first night momma is staying in the nest. It’s usually empty by now.

We have an egg!

Rewound to see her pop out the egg. Shell looked whitish at night. She left the nest for 15-20 minutes around lunchtime. The egg is reddish in color.

Yep. And she was showing signs a little while ago that she’s getting ready for the next one, although now she’s back to incubating.

Does she have a name yet? She needs a name. Looked up Falcon Crest and all those character names suck.

The female is named Freyja. The male is named Orangejello. Kidding. I can’t remember the male’s name.

Both mom and dad are there now.

And egg number two just popped out.

Lots of flies flying about

Wish this thing had sound. Not sure if it's mom or dad there now but they appeared to be squawking a lot.

You guys know they have them in Warren at GM tech center and the Detroit zoo also. My nephew texted me today that the building he lives next to at UM has a nest but he can’t find a camera for it. My BIL is an active bird watcher enthusiast. He tells me all are laying eggs now.

Lots of bird cams these days. I love it. There’s an eagle cam in Minnesota I’ve checked out. The poor parent got hammered in a blizzard and the photo went viral a couple weeks ago. The sad part of that was one of the eggs was crushed under the weight of the snow. Nature, man.

This is incredibly irresponsible parenting. Someone needs to call the State FBPS, aka falcon baby protective services. You just know mom is going to pop out more eggs and then even more floofy lives will be in jeopardy.

Mom and dad seem to spend a lot of time out of the nest. Probably scared most other birds out of the immediate area and need to travel farther to hunt. No other threats where the nest is but bet they keep a keen eye on it and would be there in seconds if something showed up. Likely not a good time to send maintenance workers up on the roof.

Dad prolly still goes to the club so mom chasin him around. May they weren’t ready for kids yet. Still out partying.
