I think Kieth is Keith's relatively unknown brother who was born in Kenya and attended a madrassa as a child..xsanguine wrote:Is he related to Keith Olbermann?

Quite the irony--a free spirit liberal ragging on someone who at one point used drugs and got divorced.

Honestly, I kind of hate hearing about that THON thing. Not that I hate raising money for cancer, but that PSU fans constantly use that as their go-to way to say that there isn't a cult-like level of devotion to their football team.
My interactions with PSU fans about THON usually are something similar to this:
PSU fan: "JoePa's wins have been restored! Let's party!"
Me: "And you people say there isn't a culture problem?"
PSU fan: "Well, you say we have a problem but have you heard about THON?"
And then they ramble about THON and how THON is proof that there isn't a culture issue at PSU (there is, I have multiple relatives who are alums and that fanbase is messed up), and then tout that their school is better because they do THON.
Yeah, it's great doing charitable work, but when you constantly bring it up as a crutch to your "we don't have a problem" argument and simultaneously use it to act self-righteous, it makes the act look incredibly insincere and I really don't care to hear about it.

Ever listen to DuTullio on 1280? He went to PSU and is their biggest apologist. He just doesn't get that PSU was in the wrong, and goes nuts at the slightest criticism.

I am pretty confident the fundraising event surrounding this story was THON (happened this past weekend, I believe), which is why I brought it up.
And what do you know, just by looking at the article...it seems like a PSU fan brought up THON unprompted to Olbermann to brag about it (which, in my experience, PSU fans are like UM fans with this false sense of superiority). Also...what do you know, fans were tweeting him about it as evidence that PSU doesn't have a culture problem.
Olbermann was a dipshit, sure, but honestly, the comment that started the whole mess is right. PSU students/fans are pitiful with the amount of self-aggrandizing they do. Probably the most insular and self-righteous fanbase I've encountered (see their "Success With Honor" bullshit).
He probably shouldn't have said that, or got into it with the fans (which is why he's a dipshit), but I actually agree with Olbermann here. They may do great charity fundraising work, but PSU fans/students are pitiful.

I used to listen to him and they all are like that, in my experience. We're not allowed to make any references to the scandal or say anything about PSU at family events anymore because my aunt and cousins go nuts over the whole thing and think PSU didn't do anything wrong. They even went to JoePa's funeral/memorial service at PSU. Just nuts.
Then, on sites like Off Tackle Empire (a site for B1G football as a whole), their fanbase is the absolute worst to deal with. They cannot handle anyone being critical whatsoever of PSU, and a lot of them stick to their team site now because they think we're a bunch of meanies there because we don't worship PSU and think they're the greatest at everything.
I hate their fans more than I hate Michigan fans. It's a whole other level of delusion with them.

The culture (football worshiping cult of personality) that allowed such ****ed up shit to occur seems to still be in place. Why should we lay off Penn State? Fuck that fan base.

The cult of personality made JoePa the most powerful man in Happy Valley, and the cult of personality continually apologizes for his nonfeasance. They still claim persecution at every turn, and that rubs me the wrong way.

Didn't the school immediately put "409" stickers on their hockey helmets the day it was announced JoePa got his wins back?

Yes. But it was 4'9" on the sticker. The preferred height of Sandusky's conquests.

Uhhhhh.....no its not. Penn state still rather let boy rape than suffer through a decade a mediocrity that we have endured. Ultimately, this will be their destruction.
