Sounds like knee surgery for Costello

We've heard about "tendinitis" now for a few weeks, seems like it may have been more than that.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Michigan State forward Matt Costello will likely need offseason knee surgery, Spartans coach Tom Izzo said after the Spartans' 81-61 loss to Duke at the Final Four.

Izzo said his junior forward has been hampered by a knee issue, which he didn't identify, for most of the end of the season.

"He's played on a little problem for a month and a half," Izzo said.

Poor guy. Could you imagine if he couldn't play. We'd basically be rolling out a 6'7 walkon at center, 4 minutes into the game after Schilling got his 2nd foul.

For nursing a sore knee he stepped up down the stretch of this season.

Make that two knees.

Knees hurting: Costello had ice bags on both knees before Friday's practice, and asked if he will require any offseason surgery he said: "I don't know. We'll see. I have no idea."

Costello also said he thinks his performance of late has "downgraded just because the knees are starting to give out."
