Post by Blanch32 Mon May 19, 2014 7:39 am

....and one of the major reasons I don't pay any attention to recruiting. Dude was suppose to be Mr hustle and instead he takes games off and mainly Mr foul. The weight loss didn't help and I blame the coaches for that. We needed a back up for Payne at center not a tall gazelle.

I swaer that fast break strategy may have only netted 10 total points all season. Fail all around

blanch -

Why did you change your name and improve your (previously) intentionally misspelled words/text abbreviations and poor grammar?  Are we supposed to consider this a schtick?  Or is it some kind of improved version/grown up version of you (blanch)?

Is this schtick/new blanch going to take on the persona of providing poor sports analysis (although spelled correctly)?

These questions need to be answered.

No idea why schticks are allowed. What do they add to the board?

It's not a schtick (in that he has changed his user name, and doesn't have his old name).

It may be a schtick (in that he has no idea what he's talking about with regards to sports, as opposed to women...which was his old schtick).

He will get double the minutes he had this year.  His production will improve.  Just as it did from his freshman to sophomore year (all important stats more than doubling).  Grade him out at 30 minutes a game(he averaged 14 this year) and his stats are fine.  Relax.

Maybe, what will he be more focused?

I didn't like the Nebraska game with him where he even admits to overlooking and not respecting his opponent. Hell, that loss could have been part of the reason why MSU fell to a 4-seed. And maybe, just maybe a 3-seed would have been enough to get to a Final Four even with a weak Appling.

Please do not let facts ruin an otherwise good argument.

In other news, most bigs develop over time. Payne made huge leaps each off season.

Is it really a dumb comment to expect more than 4 points and 3 boards per game out of a highly-touted recruit?

It's fair to question our bigs heading into this season.. Look at last year. No one really worth a damn outside of Payne. Costello was a non factor at the end of the year.

Payne's sophomore season was not even a blip in the radar. Bigs take time. Plus dude's roll was second fiddle to others. He will be big time before he's done.

No. But it is really dumb to say the coaches asked him to lose weight. And even dumber not to understand that he had mono.

Costello is going to be a very good player when all is said and done. Blanch's basketball "analysis" is enough for me to believe that.

Payne had OK numbers his sophomore year. Not great for what he was touted as either, but not dreadful. But the real truth is in the NCAA tourney if Izzo trusts you or not.

Costello only got 5 and 4 minutes against the two good teams we played in the Dance. Not a good sign that Izzo trusts him a whole lot.

No, I'm agreeing that he hasn't been impressive so far. I'm well aware of the Drew Naymicks of the world who work hard and become key parts of our team. I hope he continues to grow defensively because there have been occasional bursts there where he does look like he has a valuable skillset.

Saying someone isn't impressive doesn't mean I am shutting the door on them completely. But in your world, everything tends to be absolute for some reason.

I don't think blanch is that bad. I think his reputation is more what gets him.

He has a valid point about Costello. Not sure about the weight stuff; people were right to jump on him there but in all I just like dialogue as opposed to people posting about what they had for lunch and a blanch thread getting locked like it did on the old board.

I'm not sure it was a matter of trust, as much as it was having our best players on the floor. The bench got shortened.

I will agree that Costello sucks, but not because of "taking games off". He might have the slowest feet of any regular starting big for MSU in a while. He gets burned in the post so much I want to punch the tv, and his offense in the post makes me wish for Derrick Nix back. And no he hasn't improved or gotten stronger, and you can quote me when I say he has hit his ceiling for development. I really hope I'm wrong.
