Pick up trucks
I know two people that bought new ones recently. They never haul anything.
One guy likes to wash it and gets really annoyed if anyone parks next to him.
What is the point? It seems like the least practical vehicle they could own for their needs.

Yeah, I've never understood that. My neighbor backs into his garage.

Pick up truck dudes love this. Granted you can make all the same arguments and then some for SUV owners

I've driven pickups or SUVS my entire life, along with my guns they compensate for my small penis.

I suppose if he suspects he might need to make a quick getaway it kinda makes sense. Otherwise, I find it odd.Brock Middlebrook wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote:he sounds like the kind of guy that backs into a parking space.

Definitely.
I just got back from Lowes and there were a few trucks parked off by themselves in the far reaches of the lot. About every lot on the way home had trucks backed in. Very odd.
I had always associated trucks with blue collar folks and practical uses. Are they actually some kind of status symbol now? Or do these people just have psychological issues? They do tell me they just like the way they drive and have wifi and all this stuff.

I bet it is often pickups that try to run you off the road while you are on your bike.
I am not sure if the angry road rage monster is the same person that has no purpose for driving a truck or is another segment of truck culture.
I had to haul a school project an hour away in my van because they didn't have a cover. Then we had to drive a 2nd car because there was no room left for kids in my van or their truck. But they aren't the anal ones. I am pretty sure the other guy will be calling me soon to borrow my utility trailer because he doesn't want to get his truck scratched hauling something.

Re: Pick up trucks
My dad drives a pickup (for no real reason). For the longest time, he had a pickup but was driving a yellow 2001 chevy cavalier back and forth to work every day (it was my older sister's first car, she wrecked it, he bought it back from the insurance company or whomever and "fixed" it). Damn thing finally died a month ago so he's actually driving the truck everyday now, but for many years he drove that yellow piece of shit almost exclusively, yet still insisted on having a pickup too.
He claims it's because sometimes he needs to haul shit, but that actually happens like once/twice a year, tops, and my grandpa and uncles (not to mention my dad's friends) all have trucks he could borrow.
He also has a penchant for backing into parking spaces and parking far away so that no one is next to him. At least he has always pulled straight into the garage though...

Re: Pick up trucks
Just bought a Silverado. Three weeks ago. I drove not one but two Chrysler town and countries for over a decade. When I was getting rid of the last one I said fuck it, kid is gone to MSU next fall, one left in the house, I've been boring dad for quite a while, I loaded it up. Love it. I will use it to haul some stuff now and then but I didn't really buy it for that. I'll tailgate with it and shit like that but I bought a truck. Why a truck rather than a sports car?

Re: Pick up trucks
I actually do drive a pick up but I alson use it for hauling materials for home improvement projects and towing things like snowmobiles, boats, etc. Â And to answer the sports car question above, it's actually kind of cool to drive a pick up when it's a beaten down POS way past it's prime, that's just sad for a sports car.

Re: Pick up trucks
I rock a Town and Country. Wife drives it on a daily basis. But I love it for trips and tailgates. It is just so damn practical. Fortunately I have managed to hold on to my 90 Mustang convertible through all these years. That car has been completely impractical since the beginning.
I guess I just never realized until recently people drive pick ups for the pure enjoyment/appeal rather than for their functionality. Like a minivan, it wouldn't have any appeal to me unless it served a purpose. But whatever floats your boat I guess.
I have been close to getting a pickup myself. It would be more to tow things and haul stuff. Out here in the country there is a lot of crap to haul around but that also allows me to park trailers in my yard and not GAF.

Re: Pick up trucks
I am going to start being one of those parking in the middle of nowhere guys. Got a new car about 6 weeks ago. About 2 weeks after I got it, my 5 y.o. asked me what was that on the door as he was getting in. Yep, some asshole hit me in a parking lot and took off. Scuffed up and slightly dented the passenger side rear door.
My guess is they were parked next to me on that side and probably backing out and turning the wheel to the right and their front bumper rubbed against the rear door. Nice.

I also live in Marquette so a car is not an option. I drove a SUV for 3 years between trucks and it was a joke. Had to install a trailer hitch to haul a trailer for lumber for shelves in the basement.

Re: Pick up trucks
Never had a pick up, and for now can't really see myself having one.
I've driven an SUV for at least 10 years. Has a hitch, and a family member has a utility trailer I can use when I need it (which is once a year at most).
I have a great friend that has a pick up now, not sure what model. But, it's pretty damn nice, as nice as most cars anyway. Pricey, but I guess all new cars are now. I just can't get my head around dropping over 40k on a pick up.
In the end, get whatever you want, for whatever reason you want.
