Tell me about Philadelphia, PA
Got two full-time job offers there, including one that I really wanted. I'm planning on accepting it, but I want your take as while being really excited about moving there, I'm pretty nervous as well.
What do you guys think of Philly? Good place for a guy in his 20s? Things to do? Nightlife? How's the MSU alumni presence down there?
Thank you in advance.

The Elton John song Philadelphia Freedom was about a tennis team.

Have done business in Philadelphia. As East Coast as Pittsburgh is Midwest. PA is two or 3 different states.
I found the people decent. Different but for the most part decent. It's a fast paced business environment and it's in your face as opposed to Midwest polite you see in Chicago, Detroit, Inianapolis.

So are you saying it's not very East Coast, or it is very East Coast with the Pittsburgh comparison (as I've never found Pittsburgh to truly be Midwest, and kind of more like an intermediate between East and Midwest).
Kind of nervous, but also excited about moving down there. First real job and I've never permanently moved away from home before.

It's a shit hole. Not as big an east coast shit hole as Baltimore or Newark but a shit hole nonetheless.

I'm saying Philly yells more, generally is a quicker pace with less patience. Imagaine NYC as a more forgiving place initial meetings. Philadelphia business people will jump in your shit quicker. But once you establish relationships they figure you can survive and they start taking you seriously.
Its expensive in the city and don't be in a hurry to sign a lease befre you start your job. Look into an extended stay place if you need to so you can talk to co-workers about a decent place to live. There are some places in Philadelphia that are starting to gentrify but you don't want to be at the front end of that business.

The most important thing to remember:
Pat's King of Steaks over Geno's Steaks all day, every day, and twice on Sunday's. Just remember, it's cash only.

Philly is def East coast, Pittsburgh is very mildly midwest. Everything in-between is Alabama.

Sorry, but I only know a modestly-attractive woman who was born, raised, and lives in Philly. She does such a mean choad, though, or did. Pretty sure she's married now.

I go there 5-6 times a year for business. It's got good areas and bad areas. The airport is a dirty craphole.
I suggest living in Jersey if you take the job.
