I know that Chicago has a lot of shootings and murders, but are you aware that Detroit has the highest per capita murder rate in the country, roughly 3x the rate of chicago?

Unless you are actively involved in selling large quantities of drugs or firearms, or you associate with a street gang, your likelihood of being involved in a shooting in Chicago is extremely low.

Why Chicago?

Not to get all Wells Hall about it, but Chicago has some of the strictest gun policies in the country, and it's been that way for years. A lot of people find it hilarious that with all of this gun control, nothing has changed in regards to violent crime.

Plus no one cares about Detroit, that city is one step from the abyss. (Although Synder has done some major work turning it around)

Gun control or no gun control, not much will change in Chicago. The solution might not be restricting guns, but I doubt it will come from loosening restrictions. Why? Much of the violent crime happens in only about 10-15 of Chicago's (approximately) 82 neighborhood areas. These neighborhoods have significant issues than run much deeper than anything gun policy will ever solve. And guess what? Some of these places are segregated by infrastructure. I lived on the SW side for two years. I loved it. The north side is a bunch annoying brats. But going south of 290, things changed. Going south of 55, and it was like a light switch. Completely different in many regards. I am not asserting causation with highways, but economic segregation by way of geographic segregation was real in Chicago.

I don't know anyone that finds this topic hilarious. And... A lot has changed. Look up Chicago murder rates over the last 30-40 years.
