Re: Skiing
Skiing and sex are the two greatest activities known to man. I wish I could just ski all day every day. Glad you had a good time. It's addicting. I started when I was a little kid, but have never gotten tired of skiing. It's a great way to forget about everything else. It's freedom, bro. The man isn't keeping you down when you're skiing. Now if we could just do something about the snowboarders.

You said it. I'll be going soon again for sure. Once I got the hang of it man what a rush it was like crack. Wonder how that place compared to places in MI.

I miss snowboarding. Was one of my favorite things to do from college through my late 20's/early 30's. Knees won't hold up anymore. I wish they would, would love to take my family out West for a ski vacation.
I've never been to Killington but until you're advanced you can definitely have fun at Boyne/Schuss/etc up north.

Michigan skiers are usually really good. They have to learn to ski on ice.

Re: Skiing
Yeah skiing/boarding in Michigan kind of sucks once you reach a certain level. There are still good hills to learn on and hone your skillz. It's just that everything is pretty much groomed and/or skied over so there's not much "fluff" there, which is the fun stuff once you've gotten decent. Even once you're good, it can be a challenge on some of that icy shit. Still, I miss it. We got the boy out 3-4x last year at Pine Knob for private lessons. He liked it. He preferred snowboarding but I thought he was actually better at skiing.

You're older than me. I just do not forget.
When I was just starting out as a little kid, snowboarders did not really have their own parks and they were still buckling/unbuckling. So you guys were constantly in the way and fucking everything up for skiers. Even as a little kid, I found you super annoying.

Not true at all. I have been skiing my whole life. I have fun in Michigan. Sure, you have to be selective. A place like Pine Knob is boring as hell. However, I have always enjoyed Boyne MTN and Nubs. My biggest complaint is the short runs. They have enough vertical to make it enjoyable but you do spend a lot of time on the lift.

NFW I'm older than you. Seriously? I pictured you as a late 40's/mid 50's guy.
Also, I'm quite impatient and due to my knee issues and the fact that I often boarded with advanced skiers, I was a huge fan of the one click bindings. I had a system where I'd sit on the left side of the chair, click in with my off foot, disengage from the lift and take the fuck off down the mountain.
I can definitely feel the angst towards snowboarders who tend to gather at a certain spot and sit down and all try to strap up together. Or those who are learning and scrape snow off of already thin Michigan/NY hills. Much like driving you just gotta know what you're dealing with and anticipate traffic movements in front of you in kind.

Mount Killington in Vermont. My friends threw me into the gauntlet first run and I fell a shit ton that first time but I think it was the way to go. Started off with a lot of pizza but realized it's way more fun to actually turn and take some chances. Obviously the gondola and lifts helped as we brought plenty of extra curriculars.
The last two runs were special in their own right as visibility was pretty much nothing with the snow coming down like that.
Body is sore as fuck and I'm exhausted after only 3 days of skiing and debauchery. With that said, it's pretty satisfying to do something you never have done and enjoy it.

Re: Skiing
I must suck as a poster. I am in my 30s.
I don't really dislike snowboarders, but I always play the role of the guy that does. I mean, they were super annoying. I was a little kid with no fear zipping all over and these slow ass newbies were in the way. Just everywhere. But they made me a better skier. Not only did they teach me to anticipate, I had to ski more challenging runs where there were far fewer snowboarders

Stick with it OTPT. Fun shit.
If you were still a student I could not recommend Spartan Ski Club enough. Drinking club that sometimes skies. Not my typical demographic in terms of sports/jock interests but still had a blast with those folks and made a shit ton of friends that I normally wouldn't have ever interacted with.

Re: Skiing
Never been to Killington, but I'm sure it is better than Michigan. I skied Stowe (VT) last year. Snow wasn't great. A week after I left they got dumped on. It was still better than Michigan. Don't get me wrong, a few places in the Lower Peninsula are pretty fun.

Re: Skiing
Took a bunch of years off from skiing, finally got back into it on my trip to Bosnia last March. Lots of real nice snow and 2 good mountains less than 40 minutes from Sarajevo, makes sense why they had the 84 winter games there. A few days before I got there the mountains got 5 feet of snow in a day and a half:

Elbows...and no(that was one of the reasons I took time off from skiing though). Skiing was 2 and a half years after the accident and 1 year 3 months after being cleared to go back to work. Changed how I was skiing though as I am not trying to blow up my arms in a big crash, kept the speed down and did lots more turns...my legs were shot.Turtleneck wrote:In that when you broke all your arms ?

Nah, those are further north in Austria IIRC. There were reports of some dude selling ISIS flags and t-shirts at the outside market in Sarajevo just before I got there though. I asked my friend over there recently if they have gotten any Syrian refugees(large Muslim population in Bosnia obviously)...he said the joke from all the locals is that it is so bad there that even the Syrian's don't want to go there.
