Re: Skiing
Does anyone have experience with driving out here in the mountains a bit without 4wd? I have a..smaller car and I want to go out to Loveland which is only supposed to get an inch starting tonight to saturday night i believe. so I doubt the chain law will be in place? I don't have those, but I did just get new tires before I came out here.
Will I be good to drive hour west of Denver without 4wd or chains? Denver to Loveland?
Google has given me mixed reviews, gonna keep lookin around.

FWD I assume?
Yes. Stop being a pussy.
And chains cost like $30 and aren't that difficult to put on if I remember correctly.

Too late now, mothefucka. This pussy drove his pussy car to that fucking mountain on conquered it. I have a feeling I may get addicted to this skiing thing out here. Sucks that it's so expensive. Season pass next year.

How much is a full day ticket for the weekend and a week of rental equipment? Want to feel sad about how much it costs? In Bosnia it was $77 for 10 days of rental and the most I paid for a full day lift pass was $16. Got to love that exchange rate

That is awesome. Bosnia, eh?? And that looked like some great skiing.
I went to Loveland today for a half day + rental, 11:30am-4:15pm. It was like $41 for helmet, skis, poles, and boots. $53 for the ticket.
Shit, I thought that was expensive until I looked at Breckenridge, Copper Mountain or something, and Vail. I think. Shit was like $150 for the day, not including rentals. Fuuuuck that for now.
Loveland today was awesome, could have asked for more sun and less snow but whatever. Still the best skiing I've ever done. Shredding through the woods with no one else around and even in big areas was new. Vermont was A LOT more crowded and I had to dodge fucking morans all the time. Today, none of that. Lots of space.
Man what a day. Going to be sore as fuck tomorrow.

Also didn't really have any wait for the lifts and had a lot of trails to utilize. My ass is getting so confident that I'm weaving in and out of the shortcuts in the woods and shit. I love it!

Have you been to Vail yet?
it's been a minute but Blue Sky Basin at Vail was some of my favorite terrain I've ever seen. Ahh, the good ol' days.

Re: Skiing
I had a Summitt County ski pass in 1993. Then I blew my knee out, moved back to Michigan and I haven't been skiing since.
After living out there I couldn't consider doing it in Michigan and the idea of going on a winter vacation never appealed to me. But I was pretty close to getting my kids on it so maybe I will try again next year.
Right about now or a week from now after spring break crowds leave is the absolute best time for skiiing in Colorado. No crowds, sunshine, discount lift tickets and the snow conditions are often ideal. A-Basin (Spacin at the Basin) was where it was at. You know you can also shuttle a car to the top of Loveland Pass and ski down for free. Friends of mine did that but I was never that hardcore.

Think I'm going to Vail in like 2 weeks. It's on my list along with Aspen, Copper, and Keystone. For now. Think I have a new hobby. Bought goggles today. Slowly will buy my gear.

If it is still like it was 20 years ago find a consignment shop and you can get top of the line used stuff for dirt cheap at the end of the season.

Top 10 ski resorts, areas in Michigan this winter
Mt. Bohemia
Location: 6532 Lac La Belle Road; Lac La Belle
Opening day: Dec. 26.
Overview: The accolades for this remote, experts-only resort near the eastern shore of the Keweenaw Peninsula just south of Copper Harbor are almost too numerous to mention. Mt. Bohemia’s ungroomed terrain features the Midwest’s highest vertical drop (900 feet), deepest powder with roughly 275 inches of annual snowfall and the state’s longest run (Ghost Trail at 9,200 feet).
The resort’s 585 skiable acres feature 108 runs of which 11% are rated expert, 88% are advanced and just 1% are intermediate. There are numerous unique, exhilarating runs to choose from, including the Flying Squirrel, featuring a 41-degree, 900-foot vertical run. The Backcountry is a series of glade trails that the resort rates as triple black diamonds, or extremely difficult. Launching off the Apex or Horseshoe Chutes is also a must, as is the section called Middle Earth. It’s also possible to ski a frozen waterfall.
Mt. Bohemia also features a ski in-and-out hostel, a 30-person hot tub and 14-person sauna.
The 200-acre Voodoo Mountain section offers the only snowcat skiing east of the Rockies, though it is limited to 18 skiers per day. They are transported via snowcat (enclosed cab with tracks) to the summit and experience 12 runs that wind around and through pine and hardwood forests and open areas featuring incredible views of Lake Superior.
Both Outside Magazine and Powder Magazine agree that Mount Bohemia offers the best powder in the Midwest and Thrillist.com named it the region’s best ski resort. The website On The Snow says Bohemia has the Midwest’s best terrain and MSN.com labeled it one of the top 10 undiscovered ski resorts in the world. Accommodations range from yurts to cabins and a log cabin hostel.

Northern Michigan ski resorts are opening this weekend with January snow conditions
Dig out your goggles and gloves. Pack an overnight bag. It's go-time on some of Northern Michigan's best ski slopes.
Most spots across the Mitten have seen at least some snow this fall, but Mother Nature has been a little busier Up North. Natural accumulation plus temperatures cold enough to fire up the snow guns mean the downhill trio of Nub's Nob, Boyne Highlands and Boyne Mountain are all opening this weekend.
What's interesting isn't just the early opening - this is the third-earliest season in Nub's history - but the quality of the runs before we've officially ushered in winter on the calendar.
"The conditions are going to feel very good," said Nub's Nob Vice President and General Manager Ben Doornbos. "It's much more like mid-season conditions. This is actually more like mid-winter skiing."

Remote Michigan ski resort named 2nd best in America by USA Today readers
Mount Bohemia, which located on northern most portion of the Keweenaw Peninsula in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, finished No. 2 in the national publication’s 10Best Ski Resorts in America poll.
Known for its extreme backcountry runs, it was the only resort east of the Rocky Mountains to be named to the top 10.

Went to boyne over the holidays and they were charging $100 for lift tickets. What a fucking joke - with most of the terrain not even open because of lack of snow. That’s more expensive than some places in Colorado. Headed to steamboat today.
