Kinda bullshit if you ask me. Why did it take so goddamned long to build Death Star I? They show that at the end of Sith and they're still finishing it in New Hope?
Must have been union contractors the first time around and then they brought in independent contractors for Death Star II in Jedi.

Maybe the sequel to Rogue One could be about the labor conflicts in the Empire.

Looks pretty kick ass to me.
Interesting that they found an actor to play this part who looks so much like the original 30 years ago.

So Star Wars is going to be like The Avengers now, with a whole bunch of spinoff movies? tWife still geeks out about all things Star Wars so I'll probably end up seeing it, but if it were just up to me... nah.

I'm pretty sure that this was announced when Disney bought the franchise. They also said that nothing is canon anymore, except the movies.Watch Out Pylon! wrote:So Star Wars is going to be like The Avengers now, with a whole bunch of spinoff movies? tWife still geeks out about all things Star Wars so I'll probably end up seeing it, but if it were just up to me... nah.

It doesn't help that they're forced to use 70's era "future technology". I would have gone with something set in the future from the last movie, that way you can update some outdated looking technology.

The acting seemed bad from the lead character in that trailer and this is coming from some one defends Mark Hamill's acting.
Whatever, I'll see the film in the theater. Looks like fun.

Mark Hamill is a good actor. He was just being directed by George Fucking Lucas.

I agree.
I actually don't think the directing was that bad either in the originals.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
That's just the beginning. I was at Hollywood Studios this weekend, and there was this one show where you sit down and watch some behind the scenes stuff with comments from directors, producers, etc., about various things in the Star Wars Franchise. In that video, Kathleen Kennedy (head of LucasFilm) said that they're already working on content that will be coming over the next couple of DECADES.InTenSity wrote:I'm pretty sure that this was announced when Disney bought the franchise. I expect that the lengths to which Disney are going to take the franchise will be unprecedented for a movie franchise. They've already practically turned Hollywood Studios into a Star Wars park, despite not having even begun construction on the Star Wars Land section of the park that they announced a few months ago. Star Wars is everywhere there. Even in other attractions (Indiana Jones, Frozen, the stunt show, etc.) they make Star Wars jokes/references.
I'm a Star Wars fan, though. Not a geek, in that I don't dress up, I don't know the names and backgrounds of random background characters, and I'm not spending $9,000 on the Stormtrooper statue that they had in one of the stores. But I enjoy the movies, and find it all a bit fascinating from a business perspective, so I'm cool with this. But for the hipsters, the Star Wars haters, and the cynics that just tend to hate anything that is hyped/popular, prepare yourselves, because Disney is going take this to a whole new level. Not just at the parks, but all over media and pop culture. You knew it would be crazy when the biggest, most merchandised movie franchise ever was bought by the biggest merchandising/marketing company ever. Disney certainly appears to be all in on it. That should prevent getting turds like the prequels and Jar Jar, because you won't have one single person just doing whatever the fuck they want with the movies like Lucas was able to do on those.

Felicity Jones. She's good. Nominated for best actress in 2015 for both the Golden Globes and Oscars for "Theory of Everything". Maybe the best movie I've seen in the last 30 years. I'm not kidding.

Any truth to the rumor that Han Solo is killed by his son that he had with Princess Leah and that the hot chick is probably Luke Skywalker's daughter?

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Agree. Very cool seeing Vader. Awesome movie, but I was distracted a bit by some jackass right next to me that sounded like he was dying from the flu, coughing and wheezing through the whole thing. Yeah, asshole, I'm glad your fucking nerdom outweighed any respect for other people. Fucker.Death Roe wrote:Awesome movie. Sooo great to see Darth Vader once again.
But for more thoughts, I'll put it in the spoiler.
- Spoiler:
This will naturally have comparisons to TFA, but I think that's unfair to both movies. This, while in the same universe and related to Episode IV, is very much a standalone (no one left for a sequel), while TFA was the start of a new trilogy, so we know that we have more that we will learn about those characters.
Having said that, I didn't feel all that attached to the main characters (maybe because I knew we wouldn't hear from them again, even though I didn't know they'd all die). But I also thought Rey and Poe were much cooler than Jyn and Cassian. I also thought the bad guy in white was kind of boring as Star Wars villains go, so it's good that they had significant roles for Vader and Tarkin. Maybe that was the intention, but either way it worked. If you're going to have the villain die in this movie, you can't have him be too significant.
Amazing the CGI of Tarkin and Leia. Actors won't even be needed soon. Huge ovation when they showed Leia. I haven't read much about this, so I don't know if that was leaked, but I didn't expect them to show her (I did expect her to be mentioned, such as when Bail Organa referred to her).
When everyone dies, it's a little bit of a downer, but then they end on such a bad ass note when Vader starts fucking up some shit, we see the plans given to Leia, and she just escapes. That whole last sequence was just awesome and ends on a huge high note, with such a direct lead-in to Episode IV.
I look forward to seeing it again, whether in the theaters or when it's released on digital/DVD. There were a lot of lines I couldn't hear with the jackass coughing up a lung next to me.

Started slow. Liked 3rd act. Could have done without the blind samurai. Vader kicked serious ass.
They need to do a recall on those Star Destroyers. They are getting fucked up way too easy
