Shit, wait until the oil line starts leaking. Wasn't there supposed to be an assessment of the line done recently? What ever came of that? Probably nothing. We'll just deal with the disaster when it happens. Yay Merica!

Lucky the people of Northern Michigan aren't pussies and can take this kind of thing. Fuck a little oil spill. Shit washes right up.

Well so far they can't seem to find any of the leaked mineral oil. Yesterday it supposedly had Benzene in it, today they don't mention Benzene.
Power line leakage into Straits of Mackinac causes no detectable oil sheen
A Coast Guard marine science technician and a DEQ analyst surveyed the water while aboard a vessel Thursday, April 5.
They could not find any mineral oil sheens, signs of pollution or adverse impact to the environment or wildlife.
An estimated 600 gallons of dielectric fluid was released from two American Transmission Company power lines earlier this week.
Workers with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration have estimated the trajectory of the spill and say it should be headed to the east and northeast of the utility lines.
Communities with water intake lines have been notified, but authorities say the danger to drinking water supplies is low because of the mineral oil's low toxicity and ability to dilute in water.

600 gallons? Sheeeeeeet, Nestles takes that out of our great lakes inside of two minutes every day. Nothing to see here.LooseGoose wrote:DWags wrote:

My daughter just sent me this....
Mio, Michigan
27 mins ·
So, just found all this out:
Parents should not panic. Mio Schools are on lock down due to an armed gunman inside Pioneer Pharmacy. Rumor has it, gunman let all hostages go, but will not come out. Take back roads to get through Mio, the police have M33 closed down. Praying this all ends well for everyone concerned.

Pharmacies sell newspapers, Goose. Use them to cover the windows, but watch out for snipers.

Pretty sad if true. The guy is claiming that he only went into the pharmacy with a gun to get antibiotics for a sick kid. The pharmacist is pretty upset because he says he gives medications away all the time to people that can't afford them, the guy just needed to ask.
This will of course make it all worse for the kid(s), no Dad at home.

He surrendered peacefully after 5 hours or so. The State Police were doing hostage training in Grayling so they all swarmed over here. Probably having a professional negotiator helped.
Didn't hear whether the antibiotic story was true or not, I probably will in time.
Standoff situation in Mio resolved peacefully

Can't get a link to work. Boardman River goes from about Kalkaska to TC's West Bay. DNR dropping about 75,000 salmon into it today. Up north live has it steaming. Pretty cool shit. they put them in cages for four weeks so they get used to the river, then release them. That pretty much orientates them to surroundings and they'll be part of the habitat unless Goose catches 74K of them.

Hell, I don't know. I'm horrible when it coms to that stuff. Isn't it a third person type description of being orientated to your surroundings? I'm 56, I get to use wrong words now. People just shrug it off and say "he's old".

yup. i clearly remember my grandfather, a farmer, stubbornly calling Meijer's Thrifty Acres: "Meijer's Fifty Acres". My grandmother would faithfully correct him every time he said that... but it was absolutely futile. To him, that's just what it was and there would be no other name for that place.

You looking to hook a chinook?
Here's a link to the story. And the story used the words "acclimate" and "Initialized" So, I used "orientated". I don't know if I made that up or not, but I want a real word smith to tell me if I'm wrong here. So fuck off all you word nazi's.
