I wasn't sure if the "I just needed one PE class" was a bit of an urban legend on his behalf, as I had heard that before, but it sounded accurate.
if I'm not mistaken, Amanda has a master's degree in creative writing, which is pretty fly.

Bob, are you dropping $250+/seat to see isbell with Zach Bryan this June?
I have a moral dilemma paying anywhere near that much for a concert ticket.

I know it's a little odd, but I'm not the biggest Zach Bryan fan. He's got a few good tunes and I'm sure he's an okay dude, but he kind of exploded on the scene a little too quick for me (I know that doesn't make sense and I can't articulate why it annoys me) - that, combined with the "Woo Girls" and "Woo Boys", along with the dollars, I'll sit this one out.AvgMSUJoe wrote:Bob, are you dropping $250+/seat to see isbell with Zach Bryan this June?

I did see that Jason and the 400 Unit are playing a headlining show in Kalamazoo in between supporting Bryan. Might be tempted to see if I can find a ticket. Saw him twice (I think) last year and it's always a transformational experience.
I did pay a ton of money for Springsteen last year - took the kid with me - but that was Springsteen.
lemme know what you end up doing.

How was the show? I love St Andrews. Maybe my favorite Michigan venue.. not the 'best', but my favorite.

Trampled By Turtles coming to The Intersection in December.
it wasn't quite a fight.. more of an aggravated scuffle.. I got into an aggravated scuffle at this same venue years ago (2015, I think) during a Trampled By Turtles show.
a) who wants to scuffle with me? I'm not very scuffle-worthy
and..
b) who gets into a scuffle at a Trampled By Turtles show?
it was pretty epic.

I'mma need that story.
here's a condensed version of mine:
me and the kid are pretty much up front for Trampled By Turtles. She was (I believe) 15 at the time. Some bro starts trying to push his way up front - you know the routine. I kinda use my right elbow, nudge him back. He tries again, I use the sharper point of my elbow and push him back.
I've been to hundreds and hundreds of shows. I know the type, I know how it works..
but then, he made his mistake. Instead of trying to shove me and get past me, he shoves the kid. A 15 year old girl.
it was at that point that his sternum took a pretty intense blow from my elbow and it knocks him back. Next thing I knew, from behind me, he wraps his arm around my neck and jerks me backwards. My glasses go flying (I have no idea how they didn't get stepped on and crushed, but they didn't). He's behind me, holding me, kinda jerking me left and right - I'm elbowing him more, my daughter starts hitting him on the arm yelling "let my Dad go" - - I kinda break loose, turn around and shove him backwards.
about then, the folks all around us grab him and just start shoving him toward the security guy who, at this point, was on his way over to intervene.
dude gets booted, someone hands me my glasses.. I look at my daughter and we were kinda like "what the fuck" - and kept enjoying the show.
the next morning, my wife asks us how the show was and we outlined what happened.
obviously me scuffling at a show is, generally, frowned upon by my spouse but since I was taking up for the kid, she had no problem with it. In fact, she was like "wait a second.. this fucking bro shoved our kid?!? He'd better be glad it was you that was there and not me.. I'd be in fucking jail right now".
(my wife is pretty intense).
the whole story is now a glorious chapter in the family lore.

My story was the normal... It was at MSU, close to the front of the stage, some kid was probably on something bouncing up and down but essentially landing on people who weren't expecting a "pit" at TMBG. I yelled and told him to quit a couple times. Then it happened again him knocking into everyone and turned to confront. The guy I was with kind of hooked my arm and pulled me back must have known it was going to punch the kid, then the kid landed on both of us... pushing & shoving ensued, me and the buddy literally drug him to security, they booted him.

BUT BIG NEWS... I took my daughter to Vampire Weekend on monday at Meadowbrook. Her first concert.
She's a short 13 year old... was whining because she couldn't see when we were on the lawn. So we started roaming around, got a shirt... I took her across the front of the lawn behind the seats and told her if you play it right you can see pretty well while "moving" (short people problems)... well a security guy must have spotted us, he said with lawn tickets your not supposed to be here... I was ready to find a spot on the grass again. He gave us ear plugs and said, follow me...
Dude put us in the front row. That was awesome....
All I knew was his first name, I sent a letter to the venue about how awesome "Greg" was... hope they knew who I was talking about.
