A question for the Gerousia - Re: Name Changes

All,

Have had a couple of users change their user names lately.  I'm trying to determine how we should handle this.  On the one hand, the existing policy is that if you want to post here under a new username and still be included in the Gerousia, that's fine, as long as I can confirm who you were, and you don't mind if I tell anyone who asks, what your old username was.

So when a couple users changed their names, AFTER being promoted, we let it go, but I'm now realizing that this is going potentially cause a great deal of confusion.  As an example, I have no idea who tCock is, who is in the Gerousia.

Adding a poll with the three options I see as viable.  Leaving off a TanFan option because I really want to know what you think.

Edit: And yes, I know that the poll is not exclusive to the Gerousia since it is being asked on the public forum, but it's pretty lopsided at the moment so, chill.

Voted for admin involvement...so you are aware of the change. But, I think the change should also come with a thread confirming the change (so everybody else knows).

No Tanfan option, therefore can't vote.

Sure. This has more to do with changing usernames AFTER you get promoted to the Gerousia. There's no paper trail. We all know you as both WCS and Vargman but if you were to randomly change your username and avatar to something new, we have no way of knowing who you were, but you still have voting privileges.

So this is pretty overwhelmingly "do something".

The easiest thing to do is to turn off the ability for users to change their names. If you really want to change your name, contact Heat Miser or myself and we'll go from there.

If you could give a 90 day label next to the name as Nigel suggests and if the poster opts out they lose Geronte status for 12 months at which time they would be eligible for a vote to move them to Geronte status.

make them take a test that is part multiple choice and part essay. the questions should be about general knowledge and things only known to people in the gay/lesbian/transgender community.

Any poll without Tanfan as a choice, has no legitimacy.

So names are locked? Just as I was thinking of switching to a new one for tSwill

I'd say lock the names in... but I am pro-schtick.

I voted to disallow. That said I would vote for a one time name change and limit it as that. There should be a waiting period too.

Hell, make it a hanging offense.

I really don't care. Only Jack holes do it anyway. And the second their fingers hit the send button we know all we need to know about them.

Never understood why someone would change their name unless for nefarious purposes. I voted #2.
