I doubt the coaches found any lack of intensity to be cool. Do you like straw? Do you like men? Do you like them together?

Sorry I could have sworn posters were saying the team couldn't get fired up for the first game of the season because they were playing Furman. I guess I just imagined the whole thing and invented straw men. Good call.

You can either freak out about yesterday's game or you can not. Up to you. End result on the field will be the same whether you freak out or not. End result on message board will be the same whether you freak out or not.

You invented a strawman when you said the coaches were "cool" with the players lack of intensity. Is that too hard for your old man brain to process?

No, I don't understand. It is unacceptable for the coaches but a perfectly acceptable excuse for message board posters?

It's an excuse, but I do not think it is acceptable in the sense that people are OK with the team not showing up because they were bored with the opponent. I think most people would tell you that it is unacceptable and the team should show up regardless. All of this seems a bit too nuanced for you. Maybe we should stick to discussing message board strikes.

Why is the "keeping things vanilla" argument a "load of crap?"
I don't necessarily agree that was the entire issue but the "vanilla" argument seems more like a reason than an excuse.
I saw a lot of flanker sweeps and shit on offense. Saw blitzes. Don't think it was vanilla. Â But I saw 120 worth of penalties. That's hard to overcome.
Yes, in the 2nd half... which is pretty much what I said. Â First quarter was pretty vanilla... 2-3 man simple routes (no rubs, no motion, no jet action, etc.)
(EDIT: I have to re-watch the 1st quarter again, because my attention level was admittedly pretty vanilla early on, so I could be completely wrong)
Clarett's Folly wrote:DWags wrote:
Yep. Hicks and Price were a bit disappointing in their second major penalty, but we'll be much more focused in two weeks in my opinion
Hicks' penalty in the end zone was brilliant, though.
He was cleanly beaten, was about to surrender the TD, committed pass interference, and the defense ultimately only surrendered a FG.
That is a great damn deal if you ask me.
Agree... that one was pretty obv... the others is what I question.

"We were keeping things vanilla" excuse is the biggesr pile of crap. Â This was a bad FCS team we should have been able to run the ball up the middle every play and been up 35-0 at half, minimum.
Are you this much of a spaz in real life? Â Calling what I saw and pretty sure I called a spade a spade. Tell me what you saw spaz.

He said the defense looked unprepared because they were unprepared. Furman was a traditional offense last year and that's what we prepped for and they completely revamped it in the offseason for this game. So either Furman is really good at keeping secrets or we weren't paying attention. I trust our coaches so I'm guessing it's the former.
Defense wasn't the issue... not sure why this is even a dot-topic

I think D-line is the most concerning issue from this game.

Was thinking last night. Wonder if CMD pulled RJ after he nonchalantly sauntered OOB on his first catch and run. He was on the sideline all game with helmet in hand afterwards. In order to keep it in-house, CMD says minor injury.
Just thinking out loud. I have to admit, it would make me happy. God bless him, but that dude is constantly mailing it in at the end of a play. This isn't the NFL dude.

I'll wait for after the notre dame game to freak. Still enjoying my holiday weekend and have abandoned social media for the most part during the season to avoid slurping from media and fans. It's been helping.

Possibly. One of my buddies said they say a trainer rubbing his hammy or something.
I thought Stewart looked pretty good and quick on kick returns. I'd like to see him more. Obviously not so good on the jet sweep fumble.

Ah, maybe I should take off my tinfoil hat. Thanks
As far as Stewart, seems like a world of potential and a great attitude. Will be interesting to see how he develops this year.

I laughed when he ran out of bounds because my high school coach used to flip out over that very thing. It brought back some memories.

Just some idiot kid I think. But he's not wrong on a lot of his assessment. I mean there are things he's not seeing (that I'm sure I'm not, either). But in a pro style offense like we run, we can't have a one read QB who doesn't know how to check down.

I once yelled "look at Madaris@ during a play Friday and felt embarrassed cause I'm not that guy in the stands. But was a bit frustrated. That kid brought out things I didn't see. But my seats sucked.

I remember that play that Corely was standing there like "WTF I'm wide open."
Re: tOfficial Furman Thread
Sit in the north endzone... and for a lot of it's faults two things you can clearly see are how plays develop and the QBs eyes
Haven't watched those vids yet, but I can guess at the main point.

I think it is more along the lines of "if I have to explain the joke it probably isn't very funny"
In this case this joke was intended for Pylon only who called me an idiot in the ND thread for not understanding MSU's vanilla playbook approach.
