John Lewandowski out as MSU SID

Sounds like MSU forced him to retire.

Yes, Sports Information Director.  He's had the job for may 18-20 years.

He's the guy on the right.  You'll see him at every football/basketball game.  He's kind of hard to miss at the end of the game if MSU wins, because he's lining up Dantonio or Izzo for the postgame on-field/on-court interview.

I know it's passé to recommend TOB, but Campbell Hall does an excellent job summing up Lew's professional shortcomings in that locked thread on tRCMB. It sounds like something happened recently that was the last straw, but his/her post is spot on and reflects the views of many of us out here in fanland. And as s/he said, um is leaps and bounds better than us at SID and sports marketing.

We should have the best in the biz, since Fred Stabley Sr. basically invented the field of sports information.

Yeah, no arguing that. As an alum, I love MSU Athletics and everything about it. However, that doesn't mean it's perfect obviously. (Tieman and his presence further prove that) Apparently, JL has been skating by for quite some time and that's pretty damn disappointing considering what he's paid. I love what Hollis has done for MSU and support him fully, but it seems that letting this guy continue to flounder as SID was completely avoidable...where was Mark and/or his staff when this was going on?

Hope we can get someone in there with energy and is progressive enough to promote a University and brand that's already strong but can always get stronger moving forward.

Exactly right. And the SID job at MSU hasn't been right since Nick Vista retired. Both Stabley and Vista were excellent at their jobs and were remarkable ambassadors for the University. Ken Hoffman was a snarling bully who ruined all the good works of his predecessors and created an Us vs Them wall with sports reporters. Lew, for the little amount of time I worked with him, seemed like a decent guy but wasn't very good at his job and mostly just phoned it in.

Anyone know if Fred Sr.'s granddaughter Amy is still an SID somewhere?  Last I knew, she'd left EL for Texas, but that was more than 20 years ago. IDK if she's even in the business anymore.

It's not about scolding. It's about correcting the error, and more importantly, it's about making sure the announcers know the pronunciation before the butchering of names ever begins.
