WTF COMCAST
Just decided I want to cut the cord.
they informed me internet only would be $129 mo.
No way, never heard of it being that high.

What speed do you have? That's insane. I have internet only and only pay $39.99 a month for 25 mbps. Sometime soon I'll have to call them and ask for their next promotion.

Re: WTF COMCAST
It seems like everything Comcast offers comes at a minimum price of $129. You want internert, tv and phone? Our starter package is $129.99. You want just internet? Our starter package is $129.99.

Re: WTF COMCAST
Its probably more than your router will actually process. I haven't rented a router or modem from Comcast in about 8 years now, so I have no idea what they can process, but I know I had to upgrade my router to be able to take advantage of 75 mbps when I was at that speed. Unless you are streaming in HD on about 5 TV's at the same time wirelessly, you probably don't need that speed. I know that 25 mbps is fine for our household, can stream Netflix and Amazon Prime fine, in HD, while surfing. Later we might need faster as the kids get older though.

Re: WTF COMCAST
Yeah, we would be streaming in 3 TV's plus mobile devices. Think I heard 50mbps is a good start for streaming at that level.

My "up to" 60 mps with CharterSpectrum works for 2 Roku's and a tablet or laptop and when my kids are home with their significant others add 3 or 4 other devices and we have never experienced a lag.
Every time I check the speed its coming in around 53-55 mps

What's a quick and easy way to check speed, and do I need to be on my lapper or can I do it with my phone to check wifi, too?

I'd ask the price on "Blast!" up to 75 mps which has a intro price of $39.99/mth and if its too high go to their Performane 25mps that would be $90 if they tripled it.
If I wanted to drop Charter for 60 days I would be eligible for intro pricing. No clue what Comcast's wait period is to qualify for intro rates again
PS
No tax on internet only (Yet)

Def the game tomorrow night. The rest of the day depends on the weather here. It's supposed to rain, so I might spend the day on the couch flipping channels. If it stays dry, I really have to get the gardens and yard ready for winter. How about you?

That sounds like a pretty great day. I haven't even looked at the matchups for the day games, but I'll be heading out shortly to grab enough beer to last me through the NFL games Sunday night.
How is it that your wife can take the kids with her to work? That's setup is excellent.

Oh. I left out the part where she drops them off at her brother's house and they watch the kids. My daughter doesn't go there as much now, so I don't feel as guilty about it as I did when she went twice a week. So basically, she'll take the kids around noon tomorrow and come home Sunday afternoon around 3 or 4.tGreenWay wrote:InTenSity wrote:

Re: WTF COMCAST
Comcast set to increase TV, internet prices by an average of 3.8 percent
Fvck this shit.
My 2-year contract it up in January, depending on what they try to do they might be finally kissing my ass goodbye as I unplug from TV land.
Soaring broadcast deals for leagues are leading to massive costs for networks, which are then passing those costs on to cable and satellite providers with hikes in their per-subscriber fees. Unsurprisingly, the cable and satellite providers are now trying to pass some of those costs onto consumers by increasing what they’re charging for their packages, and they’re citing sports as a key reason why.
One key upcoming hike there are some details on is from Comcast, which TVPredictions.com’s Phillip Swann reports will increase internet and video prices by an average of 3.8 per cent nationally in the new year.
Fvck this shit.

I think I'm supposed to get "up to 60 mbs" but every time I do a speed test it's always around 9-12.
I don't know a lot about this shit and I basically only use it for surfing anyway so it doesn't bother me but I probably should bitch to them that I'm not getting anywhere near what I'm paying for.

Re: WTF COMCAST
Comcast and Spectrum (formerly known as Charter) know they are a streaming company.
My TV with the expanded channels took a big jump last fall and I went to Roku and a digital antenna. Now Spectrum has its own Roku streaming channel with local stations and about 18 others for $19.95. Cloud is cheap so the DVR with a hard drive is becoming a dinosaur.
If you can live without any online content you're a better person than most of us.

So far so good on the Kodi/firestick trial. Might tell Comcast to suck it and keep my $220 a month.

I'm probably going to go with something along those lines. Missing football without going the Euro streaming router is going to be the toughest part.

I use the Pulse build for my programing. It has a number of sports add-ons. Phoenix Sports is usually my go to for all live sports programming.
Download ES file explorer to your stick. You'll need something like that for adding Kodi and add-ons. Then Google Pulse build add-on. there are alot of tutorials showing how to download it.

About that chart. How is $64.41 three times $39.85? Or am I misunderstanding what the headline of that chart says, when it says that current cable costs are 3x the 1998 cost adjusted for inflation.Floyd Robertson wrote:Comcast set to increase TV, internet prices by an average of 3.8 percentSoaring broadcast deals for leagues are leading to massive costs for networks, which are then passing those costs on to cable and satellite providers with hikes in their per-subscriber fees. Also, when you're talking about something like technology/telecommunications, how can you possibly compare 1998 costs (adjusted for inflation) to 2013 costs? Would someone be happier watching 1998 cable (quality, channel selection, programming, etc.) for $39.85? I mean, there are the people that still hit "7" or "4" on their cable box, because they don't want to learn what the HD channel is, but otherwise, it's like complaining that TVs cost more than they did in 1998, while ignoring the difference in technology.
Not trying to defend cable companies (not after the last 3 months of ordeals I've had with AT&T and Comcast), but I hate when the media makes claims completely out of context just for the sensationalism of it.

Media math, where 1.61 gets rounded up to the 3.

You need a new modem, GRR. You should be getting 60-65. Are you using your own router or is that the hard line speed?

Cable companies have some of the worst customer satisfaction rates. I think Charter is the best (by far) and it's still only at 63% or something.
