Warmer temps are in the air and our #SpartanOfTheWeek is ready to hit the pool! Any guesses who this could be? More clues coming this week.

NBA Draft deadline: Whose stock is up, whose is down in college basketball
Stock up
Michigan State Spartans
We've got a lot of gainers listed here, but Michigan State is a cut above because it has the most well-regarded player all of the guys who opted to come back to school. Miles Bridges likely would have been a top-15 pick, yet he'll be a Sparty sophomore and should almost certainly be a preseason First Team All-American. Michigan State is now a preseason top-three team due to having the best foursome of sophomores in college basketball: Cassius Winston, Josh Langford and Nick Ward will be back in the fold too. After an up-and-down year last season, Michigan State will enter 2017-18 with Final Four goals.

Haven't seen schollie or PWO yet. If schollie this closes the Bowen saga.
I'm guessing pwo since he has no offer list.

He certainly doesn't jump out of the gym, but it looks like he can shoot the 3 and pass it a little bit.

Brackets, first-round matchups announced for PK80 Invitational
As one of the 16 schools taking part in the event to honor Nike co-founder Phil Knight and his 80th birthday, Michigan State opens with Georgetown on Nov. 23, which is Thanksgiving Day. The participating programs are split into two separate eight-team tournaments. Also in MSU's bracket are UConn, Oregon, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Portland and North Carolina. The Spartans will play either UConn or Oregon in its second game and could play North Carolina in the final.
Michigan State is 1-1 all-time against Georgetown, beating the Hoyas 80-68 in 1986 and more recently falling 64-60 in February 2014

I'd be happy if he can just play a couple minutes each game without turning the ball over. As you see, the bar is set very high.

I like Thanksgiving hoops. I'll be at my in-laws so it will give me a chance to hide out. BTW, lose to UNC in the final.

There was a time when those two would be the featured teams in the Spartan Cutlass Classic. And crowd enthusiasm levels would reach heights not heard since Sally Farmbottom whooped it up after she got three dryers in a row at the village laundromat.

Bilas: MSU hoops can ‘make a run at the whole thing’
It’s enough that has Bilas thinking big things are set to happen in East Lansing.
“If everybody is healthy and they get great guard play,” Bilas said. “Winston is coming back and he’s a special player. (Tum Tum) Nairn is a coming back and he’s a great leader. They lost a few things, but to have so many quality players back and have them healthy … Langford is back, too. So you got so many guys coming back that have had experience and have been through it and I think Michigan State has got to be confident that personnel-wise they’re not gonna be short-handed against anybody in numbers and in talent.”

I really don't understand the thinking here where it seems the only potential weakness in a national championship caliber roster is one more quality 2/3.

I think they would use the schollie if they felt there was an improvement to be made. They must not feel that player is out there.
Realistically it would seem pretty hard to recruit someone in right now to displace a Jr in the depth chart.

Are there a lot of quality 2/3 players left in the 2017 class?

Were there a lot of quality 2/3 players in the 2017 class available then, that we had a legit shot at getting? I mean, it's easy to say we should have just grabbed a quality 2/3, right?
Do you have some names?
Maybe he was saving that scholarship for Bowen.

Maybe 3 months was the point he wrote off Bowen. Maybe it was 5 months and he held out hope for another 2 months. Tough for me to say. I just know the end result is that he got no one. And yes I think Izzo obviously has the clout to land a quality wing. Saving it for Bowen isn't a valid excuse when Bowen never came here. It is a miscalculation.

Regardless of the timing, was Izzo under some kind of mandate to only recruit one specific player for that spot?

Worth noting. @MSU_Basketball will face Duke in Champions Classic, could see North Carolina in PK80, and will see Notre Dame in Big Ten/ACC.
