Izzo doing some preseason trollin'....

Today I learned Judge Mathis is actually Greg Mathis, a retired Detroit justice. I also learned he knows Tom Izzo in some capacity and it led to this.

2. Michigan State’s front-court depth may be its greatest asset
There’s quality depth and then there’s what Tom Izzo has this season up front, which is utterly ridiculous.
The Spartans boast six legitimate big men — Jaren Jackson Jr., Gavin Schilling, Ben Carter, Nick Ward, Kenny Goins, and freshman Xavier Tillman — who Izzo can put into a game without hesitation. That list doesn’t include Miles Bridges, who played the majority of last season as a freshman as a small-ball power forward out of necessity.
“I’ve never had a front court this deep,” Izzo told FanRag Sports after a practice last week in East Lansing. “I’m going to have to figure out how to play everyone and when to play everyone, but that’s on me and I’ll figure that out. Gavin (Schilling) is the best in the country at guarding ball screens and I think Kenny Goins may be our most improved big guy from last season. Ben (Carter) is also very valuable because of how well he understands how to play. He’s got a great IQ. We’ve got options.”
Izzo said that right now he’d feel comfortable playing 10 guys if Michigan State had to play a game against a quality opponent.
The Spartans are currently ranked second in the FanRag Sports’ Preseason Top 25.

Guess Who’s Back
Ranking all 351 college basketball teams, from Duke to Alabama A&M
Ranking all 351 college basketball teams, from Duke to Alabama A&M
The Spartans will be rated higher than fourth in other polls, but the difference -- for us -- between Duke and MSU is fingernail-thin. Sparty's got the preseason Player of the Year in Miles Bridges, plus three other sophomores (Cassius Winston, Nick Ward, Josh Langford) set to run the Big Ten. Power forward Jaren Jackson is a top-10 freshman talent, and critical veterans Tum Tum Nairn, Ben Carter and Gavin Schilling are back. This is Tom Izzo's 23rd season with MSU. This roster is top-five he's had in East Lansing

Couch: If this is Jaren Jackson's everyday motor, then Michigan State has a menace
EAST LANSING – I couldn’t stop staring at Jaren Jackson Jr.’s arms Thursday night. Covering 8 feet side to side. Or hanging by his knees. Or swatting shots — eight of them, in Michigan State's 80-72 exhibition win over Ferris State.
And I couldn’t help but to think how much the Spartans needed Jackson’s arms last season. Sophomore guard Joshua Langford was thinking the same thing.
“It saves us a lot, his length,” Langford said of his 6-foot-11 freshman teammate. “It’s just crazy how long he is. It’s good to see that we have somebody like that.”
It changes this season, changes MSU defensively.
