Trammell, Whitaker could enter HOF together in 2018
Both Trammell, who has a career WAR in line with Derek Jeter's, and Whitaker, who has a WAR higher than Ryne Sandberg's, are expected to be on the ballot next year, and could be enshrined together —which would be most fitting, considering the 20 years they played together as the longest-running double-play combination in major league history.

Re: Official 2016 Detroit Tigers Thread
Despite improved team, Tigers attendance falls for 3rd straight year
The Detroit Tigers won 12 more games than they did last season and were in the playoff race until the end — but still paid a price at the turnstiles.
Attendance at Comerica Park was 2,493,859 this season (or 31,173 fans per game on average), the 11th-best gate total in the Tigers' 116-year history. However, that is a decline of 232,189 fans from 2015, a drop-off of 2,481 per game.
Sellouts have been scarce — two this season, down from four last season. In 2014, the last year the Tigers made the playoffs, they sold out 27 of 81 home games.
Why? Despite $206 million in player payroll spending, the Tigers struggled with consistent play all season — and lost 14 of 18 games to division rival Cleveland Indians. Losing a stretch of 11 of 12 games in May may have soured some fans early in the season. Detroit also struggled with injuries, and manager Brad Ausmus and first-year General Manager Al Avila were targets of steady fan and media criticism. Fan apathy can be an issue with good-but-not-great teams.

Re: Official 2016 Detroit Tigers Thread
I will never have anything bad to say about Mr I.
He gave us a competitive Red Wings organization and has kept them that way for a long time.
He took a while to get the hang of baseball but again has spent the $$ to try and win.
He moved his company in the D long before Gilbert and the others.
Christ I'm old enough to remember when he was spending big $$ to win softball championships.
Yes he has his quirks, we all do. But he's been a huge positive for Detroit and Detroit Sports teams.

I know you weren't really. I've poked at his hair, etc at times too. But I know the day he passes it will be a tremendous loss for the D no matter what his kids do.

I can stomach any trade except Fulmer or JV.
What's next for Tigers? Here are some thoughts

Re: Official 2016 Detroit Tigers Thread
JV's trade value is probably the highest it'll ever be from here on out. He could very well win the Cy Young again, at least finish as a top-3 voted contender.
Miggy's contract is way too unmovable, as is Victor's. I'd also entertain offers for Kinsler, since again, his value is the highest it's been in years coming off a kickass season.
I'd also consider moving Justin Upton. I think I'd rather stomach keeping Miggy and Victor than deal with J-Up. He got hot on the tail end of the season, but was dogshit for most of the year.
Trade priorities:
1) Entertain offers for anyone on the team not named Fulmer or Miggy.
2) See if the Dodgers or Cubs would trade for Verlander - they are both in Absolute Win Now Mode, and one of them will be even more hungry after this week. JV is on the tail end of his career, so I think he would waive his NTC to go to a really good team that is ready to win the Series.
3) See if a team would want Kinsler. Can't think of anyone really in need of 2B, but his value is very high right now.
Say the Tigers trade JV and Kinsler, they could get 3-4 prospects for JV, and 2-3 for Kinsler easily. They could pretty much say who they want, too, since they're trading away two players at a current peak.
We also have to realize that JD is due for a big deal. Might turn into a trade scenario like Porcello for Cespides two years ago. One or two of the fat deals is DEFINITELY gone this off-season. I don't think they'll replace one fat deal with another for JD, unless someone seriously wants Victor on their team as a full-time DH. Maybe Boston to replace Papi?

Re: Official 2016 Detroit Tigers Thread
Tigers open for business, willing to trade anybody
It would be a stretch to compare the Detroit Tigers to a used-car dealership, with all of the merchandise priced to sell and a concerted effort to clear the lot of all of the big-ticket items.
But the message being received from the rest of the industry is a dramatic shift for one of baseball's oldest franchises: They will listen to trade offers on everybody.
Miguel Cabrera. Justin Verlander. Ian Kinsler.
Anybody.
Now, there's a big difference between listening to offers and executing trades, and even if some team stepped up and dangled a suitable package for one of the Tigers' bigger stars, that doesn't necessarily mean Detroit would finish the deal, especially after years of conditioning its fan base to expect big-money teams with big names. And there is no indication that what the Tigers will try to do this winter will be anything close to a full-blown fire sale.
