Interesting how many people in MI voted for neither:
Freddie @freddiedeboer 21m21 minutes ago
Number of ballots that recorded no vote for either presidential candidate were greater than the number of Stein or Johnson voters in MI.

Re: Election Game 2016 - The political thread that Travis won't move
.Even if one thinks that Donald Trump’s election means nothing much at all — that it was the product of Hillary’s weakness or of Trump’s celebrity or of James Comey or what you will — one has to account for the massive Republican wave that came in underneath Trump (the second wave in three years, note).
Republicans won the House for the tenth time in twelve elections, racking up a massive majority for the second election in a row.
They lost only two seats in the Senate, leaving their total at 52.
They improved upon their already-remarkable position in the states, bringing their count to 33 governor’s mansions and most than two-thirds of state legislatures. Hell, they won the governorship of Vermont, took complete control of Minnesota’s legislature, tied the state senate in Connecticut, and improved their position in Illinois (which has a GOP governor who can now use his veto). And they did so not with a mid-term electorate, but during a presidential race.
This was a wave. A “repudiation,” if you will

I... I actually agree with Vlad?Vlad wrote:Death Roe wrote:Dems pre-election: "Need to stay together as a country and unite to be stronger no matter who wins"
Dems post-election: "FUCK YOU TRUMP SUPPORTERS I HATE YOU ALL"
This Dem hasn't said a negative word about Trump or his supporters since last night. In fact, I've given him credit for doing what he needed to do to win. I've only blamed HRC and the Dems for the results.
I believe we need to unite, and I believe we CAN unite. Whether it happens or not will depend on how Trump chooses to govern. It could go either way.

No, I'd just like to know how you've established that SVG, is "low info." For all you know he is a hell of a lot more informed than you... he just happens to not agree with you. So I guess that's the threshold for being informed.

White Won
Seventeen months after he announced his candidacy, millions of white Americans flocked to the ballot box to put Trump into the White House. And they did so as a white herrenvolk, racialized and radicalized by Trump.
AN AMERICAN TRAGEDY
All along, Trump seemed like a twisted caricature of every rotten reflex of the radical right. That he has prevailed, that he has won this election, is a crushing blow to the spirit; it is an event that will likely cast the country into a period of economic, political, and social uncertainty that we cannot yet imagine. That the electorate has, in its plurality, decided to live in Trump’s world of vanity, hate, arrogance, untruth, and recklessness, his disdain for democratic norms, is a fact that will lead, inevitably, to all manner of national decline and suffering.

Agree. Although I'm not sure what "price" you're talking about. I'm still holding out hope that he can truly act like an independent and bring some sanity to Washington.
Now, if you're referring to start wars or going backwards on social issues, then yes, that would be heavy price. But I'm hoping he doesn't go there, simply because he's shown no history of being far right on social issues.
I hope that now that he got what he wanted, that he'll be rational. His acceptance speech was surprising in that it was calm and reasonable. I was more surprised by that, than I would have been if his acceptance speech consisted of "Suck it, bitch!"
My hope is that, as a businessman, he knows that he must surround himself with smart people that know what they're doing and aren't just Yes men/women. If that fails, then my hope is that the Republicans in Congress still hold enough resentment over him being a party outsider, that they stand up to him. A lot of the things people fear that he'll do, aren't possible for him to do without Congress. So if he tries to push some of his crazy/dangerous shit that he talked about, they need to check and balance that.
I could two fucks what some shit in a British pub or my Canadian freinds up North think. Was flipping around XM in the car and the BBC reporters were getting a kick out of interviewing people from other countries. Also got a call from a Canadian I work with and he asked "how I was doing?" like a member of my family died.
Half of what we saw was schtick, especially early on. He was doing what he needed to do to get attention and tear down 'the establishment'. It somehow worked, because people are hoping for economic change and tired of politicians.
I don't think he is dumb enough to keep being a complete jackass for the simple reason that he'll want to get re-elected. People won't continue to turn a blind eye to it now that he is the boss. Hopefully he realizes this. But I bet he breaks it out at key times like before any big confrontation with congress or a world leader we're struggling with.
TL/DNR version: My hope is the same as yours.

This is about the only place I talk politics. And with close friends and family. It's not worth it elsewhere
It can be constructive, but only with people who can keep things in perspective. I've never gotten angry with someone who disagrees with me about a political issue. It's weird. This whole thing is weird. True colors and all, but they won't see it that way.

Hillary was the one it deserved if it wanted 4 more years of politics, raising taxes while running up the national debt, and getting nothing done.Cameron wrote:The president America deserves.
Tremendous success running businesses because Trump surrounds himself with smart people. Expect his cabinet to be loaded with the same...unlike career politicians that generally pick other career politicians for past favors. Will be nice to see the country run like a business instead of a soup kitchen. He'll get stuff done, especially since the GOP owns the house and senate.
Libs seem very upset today. I can sympathize. They probably feel like I did when Slick Willy got elected and when Obama got re-elected.
Yes, Trump was brash during the campaign. The media loves drama...it's what they do best to create more drama with. Trump won despite the media stirring maybe 80% of the turds in Hillary's favor.
I expect Trump to settle-in well and calm many raw nerves. His acceptance speech was unifying and gracious.

Opposite for me. Victory dances abound.
We're a pretty divided country.
But these protesters are asinine. I would bet a million dollars many of them didn't vote yesterday.
