Death Roe - wtf? You referred to a "random message board poster".. but failed to name the MESSAGE BOARD.
You are dead to me.

hi Graham - love your work - do you have a favorite cover of a Springsteen song? If not, I can make a recommendation.
Graham Couch
I'll always take a recommendation. But 10,000 Maniacs playing "Because the Night" is still probably my favorite Springsteen cover of all time.
(I'm not going to tell him that "Because the Night" was written by Patti Smith - and Springsteen actually covered it. I hate to be that guy)
And the Maniacs' cover is 10x better than either version.

Opened his mouth and confirmed fooldom. Patti's remains the definitive version.

My band (the Go-Gos) covered Born to Run once. We killed it. Who the heck are the 10,000 Maniacs?

Was it called Lizards at the time? Probably late '80 early '81. We were close enough to smell the liquor on his breath.LooseGoose wrote:Better than Bruce.I.B. Fine wrote:

They either warmed up the Doobie Brothers or Foghat at Castlefarms back in the day. The mind dulls, but even a faded memory is that they entertained nicely. Only saw them once.

I remember listening to Foghat on 8-track in my Dad's '74 Ford truck. Thing was candy apple red and white. 3-speed on the column.DWags wrote:I.B. Fine wrote:

Freakin' sweet-ass truck. I'd give anything to have that sitting in my driveway right now. He kept it in mint-condition, white wall tires.

Back then? He wouldn't let near the drivers seat.
I remember being amazed as he'd drive, drink coffee, smoke a cigarette, work the clutch all while changing gears at the same time.

I actually went to see Foghat at Cobo, 1977 I think. Twas a fine show when I was into that kind of scene at 17.

My Grandpa had a similar '68. He went to town one day a week on Wednesday when the stockyard had their auction. Starting in the summer of '72 when I was 11/12 he had me drive him to town. Locals, Sheriff or State Police never bothered us as Grandpa at age 79 was a notoriously bad driver. His motto was "I let the other guy worry about getting out of the way".

I started driving when I was 14.. of course, my parents didn't know about it. I'd badger my (older) brother until he'd let me drive.. I'd drop him off at his job and take the car, come back and pick him up when he got off.
if I couldn't get the car, we'd usually jump a train to get across cross town, which was kinda fun.

This is bullshit. Oh, they don't seem very objective, but, ya know, maybe there is some truth, so its ok in that case. And the Arizona media I've seen doing it, has "Wildcat" in their title. It's not objective media, I don't think. That said, if facts are wrong, those need to be pointed out
Go fuck yourself Couch, you stupid motherfucker. You don't want to come off as a homer, so you will just ignore the facts that probably are true?

Graham seems like a decent dude. Just a little lacking in conviction to do the right thing. I don't blame him too much though. Doing so will probably put him out of his comfort zone. It is what is is I guess. Would be nice if someone other than Valenti started digging into all of this a bit harder.

Valenti, I don't know - he's an adult who wears a baseball cap backwards. Can't quite commit on that.
