A vast majority of the fentanyl smuggling is by US Citizens going across at legal board entry points, FWIW.

Congress allotted the money for the wall so they have to use it for the wall. It's like when Trump tried to hold up the money to Ukraine - you can't do it.

As for the border, nobody I know wants an open border - what they want is to not use it as a political football. Just because right wing radio tells you something does not make it true.

The US needs a seriously revamped immigration policy which allows millions of more guest workers to deal with the labor shortages that the people walking across the border provide. This is really what the Libertarian Economists have gotten right.

The problem is that the Republicans found they could get votes on the issue by not doing anything rational, so until the RWNJ's wake up to how they are being grifted nothing much on that will be done.

Also, one of the headline grabbing events happening is that the Obama & Biden administrations have been much better at patrolling the boards, so the numbers of people trying to walk across that are intercepted has increased, giving more click bait for the Republicans to riff on.
