I'm screwed for life now
The cat is out of the bag. My husband got me knocked up. My life is now over. Any last minute advice? I would off myself, but the husband is happy. So I guess I will be nice and put up with it.

I'm not convinced. Sure she will be a spartan fan, but that's kind of an embarrassment right now.

As the father of a three year old and another one coming this summer, SLEEP. Go the bed early, sleep in late as much as you can, because that shit is OVER.
Also, take a babymoon, you won't regret it.

Truth, it's tough, but hands down the greatest thing ever. People who say their wedding day was the best day of their life clearly never had kids. Most days with my little man is better than any day before.

Congrats! I know you didn't want kids but you won't regret this when your little toddler is cuddling up to you every chance she can. Raising children is an amazing experience. Way more gratifying than anything else you do in life imo.

Seriously congrats. You'll wonder how you lived without your baby. And yes your life will change. Not gonna lie.

Calling bull shit. I've been nothing but confused and nervous for 20 years. I mean in between if they win a contest or make a team or get an "A" or do something that helps others you kind of get gritty. But mostly I'm confused and scared.

Well you have 2 girls.
I don't know man, it really gives you a greater purpose in life. You know it. That's what I'm saying. It's gratifying from that perspective. When I finally got my little asshole to ride without his training wheels it was like...fuck yes. When my daughter hugs me and tells me I'm her prince.....there's just nothing better. I would kill all of you motherfuckers for one of those hugs.

It's all some scary shit. I get everyone says it's amazing, but I'm still skeptical. Keeping pets alive is easy, a human is a whole other story.
And it sorta counts an Australian baby by the 40 week time frame. But it was really about 2 weeks after that.
And genetic testing that can be done as early as 10 weeks can now determine gender of the baby . The parasite inside me is a girl. I don't know what the fuck to do with girls. I don't know anything about them.

I have 2 daughters, 6 and 2. We took them to the park tonight because the weather was beautiful. I chased them around that playground for a good hour and the joy on their faces as they ran from me provided a feeling that I could not attain before them. Sure there's stress and anxiety in raising children. It's not an easy thing to do at all. That just enhances the gratification when you know you're raising them right.

Don't let them start dancing. They walk out on stage at two with their little outfit on and the crowd goes Ohhhhh and the studio has you hooked. It goes about 10-15 K a year after a while. Two and it will break you. Soccer is great.
And yeah, it's scary as shit.

Be honest. Is having kids worth it? Anyone here choose not to have them? I can't help but think of getting no sleep for three years and how much money you lose. Will this mentality change later on?

Re: I'm screwed for life now
lol shocking.
Here's the thing stoops. You have kids, you have to understand that you're no longer the most important person in your life. Sounds horrible right? I mean can you imagine not living every single waking moment in life for yourself? It's actually quite exhilarating. Can't explain it. But if you're too selfish to ever want to focus on others instead of yourself, probably not for you.

Just last night I call my high school friend. It was his birthday. He's been dual income no kids for 25 years. Loves his wife they've had one miscarriage years ago,she then had a bout of cancer then they couldn't. Well he tells me he just bought a boat from one Nick Saban in Alabama for r 95K, it had six hours on it. He's having it towed to a second home he has in Tennessee and wants me to come down there in May. Always generous always has a great vacation or three per year always at my kids special events. Thing is, when he tells me the boat story, I can't lie and say I'm not a bit jealous or it occurs to me what "stuff" I might have if my wife and I didn't have kids. And yes, you do have that feeling. I've also already said itt that I'm fairly scared and confused most of the time. So, what I'm about to say will seem weird. I wouldn't trade it for any of that stuff. It's pretty fucking cool being a dad. Weird I know.

Re: I'm screwed for life now
You'll do fine. I've met your mom - she'll be a big help for you. The fact that your husband is excited will make this the best thing that ever happened. He'll step up to the plate and you will too.
My 4 kids are all grown up - all married, some have kids too. If I did it, you can too.
I honestly have a hard time remembering anything in my life much out of being married and having kids. It's still a good day when I contact all of them in the same day. It's a rare day that I don't talk to at least one of them daily. When you get my age, you'll be glad that you had children.

Dendro - congratulations!
There is only one thing better than having kids, that is having grandkids.
The only problem is that it is tough to have grandkids first. So just think of this as a 20-30 year long game to really enjoy those grandkids. By the way, everything that you say and do in raising your own kids will have an impact on how they raise their kids.

Re: I'm screwed for life now
No one should have children if their major goal is wealth accumulation.
Children are expensive. Sometimes now more than ever because nearly everyone has seen out of pocket healthcare costs go up and childcare is a real business. If one parent can stay home or switch schedules you duck the child care.
Haven't been driving an SUV or minivan? You probably will for the next 20 years to haul the child and associated stuff including stuff when they move to college.
That stuff? You never stop buying the stuff. The purchases of shoes, clothes, jackets for each season never stop because the child keeps growing. Plus along the way they develop some fashion sense and want to have input on what you by for them. Then there are activity purchases from soccer, tennis, little league, hockey and/or cultural stuff like music lessons, dance, art. You will face purchase conundrums for teenagers. They will want a cellphone but not for you to call them.
Both our kids are out of school and on their own. Youngest graduated from MSU Sping of '16. We're drinking coffee watching Sunday Morning. Her mug has my youngest's MSU graduatation photo and the date. Out of the blue my wife looks at the mug and said, "Being a mom was the best job I ever had."
Dendrobates, I hope you feel the same way in 25 years.
Congratulations. Pray everything goes well and enjoy the ride.

Re: I'm screwed for life now
I did not get married until I was 40, had a daughter when I was over 50. I lived the single life a long time and collected a lot of toys. Having a kid is worth giving up those things.Stoops21 wrote:

At some point most people actually face the question - what is the meaning of life? I am not sure there is a correct answer, but I pretty pretty sure it has nothing to do with collecting toys.
Hopefully, the kids starts sleeping through the night after about a year.
