Alexis Sanchez officially announced by United. As some of you may know/remember, my wife is Chilean, and I follow the Chilean national team very closely, so I couldn't be happier. If I had to pick a Chilean, I'd take Arturo Vidal, but Sanchez is a close second.

I never get too excited about transfers, but him being Chilean this one is different. Is he going to make a difference? Who knows. I just like him as a player, hated seeing him in an Arsenal shirt the last few years, and will enjoy rooting for him every week.

No, because they clearly did want him.  I don't think they would have agreed to a 60m fee in August if they didn't.  Or offered him a 15m signing on fee earlier this month in addition to 20m to Arsenal.  Or offered a 30m signing on fee if he let his contract run out in the summer.  You even had DeBruyne publicly talking about "when" he comes to City, not "if".  All this is well known.  Really not sure how you can say that City didn't want him.  There is a mountain of evidence to the contrary.

However, if you have evidence indicating that City did not want him, prior to United getting involved, then please, by all means, share that.

Anyway, so now you're changing your argument from City not wanting him to City not wanting to pay the salary. Even though they offered him more than United? You can't say City didn't want him and you can't say that they weren't willing to make him their highest paid player (the offers are well known). What you can say is that they don't need him as much as United. They thought he was a lock and figured they could snap their fingers when ready and get him. They miscalculated. It's not going to hurt City much to have lost out, so why do you care so much about defending a team that is only your favorite 2 weeks out of the year?
