I think 3-on-3 would actually give some other countries a chance to win something (not gold, of course, that's ours). Lots of countries have 3 NBA (caliber) players, but not enough quality guys to have a full size roster that can actually challenge the typical medal teams.

Durant can hit the trey. Melo is a great shooter from 2-range, and Kawhi is a beast defensively and can score at will.

I didn't think in terms of who would actually be willing when I put LeBron in there. But if he's out of the equation, I'd still go with someone other than Melo or Steph. I want all 3 guys to D up.

KD and Kawhi are obvious choices. For the third spot, with no LeBron, I'd probably go with (in order):

Paul George
Klay Thompson
Jimmy Butler

Melo is awesome when it comes to the Olympics. Dude's a champ in that aspect.

George, no way in my mind. I have never seen him come through when it mattered. I'd go with Butler.

When the game gets close, PG could just let KD and Kawhi take all the shots (they're both money) and just focus on D. But now that you mention it, I might move him to the bottom of the list I just posted. I'd rather have Klay than Butler because I think they're about equal defensively and Klay doesn't need the ball in his hands as much on offense.

Each game is 10 minutes long, no halftime, no break, no time-outs. The shot clock is 12 seconds, so no four-quarters garbage here. Oh, and the game is half-court. In other words: no transition offense, no wasted time, nowhere to hide.

But most of those NBA guys won't be playing in the 3 on 3 they will be playing for the national teams
