Had to rescue two employees in Warren that night. As I did I went by my sis in laws house they had just left for a weeks vaca. Called my wife and said basemen completely flooded half way up. They came home from TC. Brother in law and I worked our ass off next two days. What a mess. Thoughts are with the people in mid Michigan

Geez... that looks terrible. What river flooded?
That's the thing. That part of Midland has no river near it. I'm not even sure why it flooded. The rivers near the Tridge flooded, but that's not unusual. The area near the mall have anything near it. I don't think anyone would expect the mall and Meijer to flood.

8 inches of rain in a very short time will do it. The storm sewer system isn't designed to handle that much water that quickly.

Re: Flooding in Mid-Michigan
The Detroit flood was about 5 inches of rain. Left work in the nick of time and drove through places that were already flooding. 696 & Groesbeck, 696 & Mound Rd, Mound & 13 Mile (GM Tech Center)...basically Warren from one side to the other. At one spot on 696 between Van Dyke & Mound it looked like water was coming up out of the saw cuts in the concrete. Made it home and turned on the news. Discovered places I'd driven through were then under 3-5 feet of water.Jake from State Farm wrote:InTenSity wrote:

Here is what an eye witness told me about the Warren flood. Water came up out of man holes and the grates on the side of the road with good force. Immediately and surprisingly. The flood happened fast and trapped many people.

The ramp/turn lane from EB 696 service drive to SB Groesbeck. Did not take this pic but saw the water gushing higher while on the WB service drive headed to the ramp onto 696 at Bunert.DWags wrote:gHost Spartan wrote:I don't understand how vehicles get stuck in those floods. LOL,Bunert was where I rescued an employee. Just a street over. He said it was amazing. He was watching the water "Blow the fuck up" out of the manholes. Like a bomb had gone off. That's to answer Ghosts question as to how someone could get trapped. It was immediate and surprised the hell out of many people. . He backed the car up a driveway of a house, knocked on the door and a neighbor came out and said that the house was empty. When I got there with my wife's commander, they said we could keep the car there. I drove down to Hoover and up to 14 mile with water covering the tail pipe once in a while. Saw a floating car or two and avoided them, got to the east side and it was fine.
