Game of Thrones - catching up Empty Game of Thrones - catching up

Post by Tim Wakefield 2017-06-27, 17:32

I don't want to open the season 7 thread since I'm only through season 2. My HBO free trial expired but I want to catch up and watch season 7 with my buddies.

Are the summary/recap videos on YouTube sufficient? Any suggestions for how to catch up on the storyline?

I'm not above begging either, so here goes: if anyone has an HBO login I could use, that would be sweet.

Start witha clash of kings, it's pretty detailed, although you probably can't finish all the books before the next season starts. Maybe try watchers on The wall. Check Wikipedia, but it's a lot.

I guess if someone just wants the gist of what happened so that they aren't completely lost when watching the new season. But you'd miss some amazing TV along the way.

So, after finishing season 1, I'm going to score it Vikings 7 Thrones 3.

I'm not sure how Ned Stark became a such a popular meme after he eventually failed.

Emilia Clarke is good.

Vikings is pretty solid, especially S1, but lacks depth and I lost interest after a few seasons. It was basically the same storyline over and over and over again.

The thing I liked about Vikings was the spirit of adventure and they were always on the move, trying to conquer something.

Back to Thrones, thank god that insufferable pompous ass twerp Joffrey is finally gone.

Game of Thrones was such an awesome series. Arguably one of the best ever. I want to rewatch it. But it had such a horrific crash and burn at the end, I don't think I can.

I don’t think the crash and burn was as epic as is claimed. Could it have been better, yes, of course. I enjoyed it all. Mostly the tits.

Once they ran out of book material, man, it was pretty bad. Not the fault of the people in charge of the show, they never set out to write a story.

Ive been rewatching it. Binge re watching. I’m in like season 4. It’s really fucking good and you’ll enjoy remembering how good it was.

Yes the last 2 seasons were awful Star Wars Michael Bay type shit but you can always just skip them. Sad they fucked it up so badly but enjoy the earlier seasons because they are gold.

Was so annoying trying to parse between the people that couldn't accept Dani as the Queen of Ashes (even though it was ridiculously foreshadowed) vs the people who just hated the terrible pacing of the season.

What I recall about GOT.

Wasn't the mom a zombie in the book for a while? How did that story line end? The actual Wolves were the best and killed off too early.

I think I had gone back and rewatched from the beginning before either the last or second to last season, and it reminded me of just how absolutely amazing the first few seasons are. I didn't mind the later seasons, but I don't usually get worked up about TV shows/movies (with some exceptions). I'm more about the general story and character arcs, and at that point was invested/interested in seeing where they took those.

I rewatched it all last month. I was one of the people that hated the pacing but it’s not a big deal to me anymore. Probably because I don’t have to wait a week and stew over it. Uron or however you spell it was one of my favorites. Wish he had more screen time. Also loved the hound although his death kinda pissed me off.

Still unresolved. Pretty sure the last book ended with her finding Brienne in the woods somewhere. But it has been so long since the last book, I'm not 100% on that.

The direwolves were definitely under utilized in the series (something something too much money to cgi them in).
