GOP picking up another governorship: WV governor expected to switch parties

WASHINGTON — Gov. Jim Justice of West Virginia, a Democrat who was elected last year even as President Trump carried the state by 42 points, is expected to announce Thursday night at a rally with Mr. Trump that he is changing parties, according to three sources familiar with the plans.

Shows that Trump is still popular in places he won, and maybe in places that he flipped. So that also means approval ratings are slightly misleading. They are meaningful, but do not paint the whole picture. Clearly this governor thinks he has something to gain...unless he has been promised something in return.

The governor was elected in Nov '16 with 49.1% over his GOP opponent who got 42.3%.

President Trump got 67.9% of the vote in Nov's election.

Jim Justice wants to be a two term governor. Makes perfect sense.

I don't really care enough to look into it if I'm honest with you. I'm way more interested in other states senators and reps than their governor.

Good to know James was a registered Republican until 2015 when he switched to be a Democrat for an easier path to be on the ballot where he won with 49.1% .

Within a week of becoming a Republican, he asks the federal government for $4.5B.
