New Spartan

So, I'm hesitant to post this here, but whatever.

Second child was born on Saturday, a healthy 7 lb 2 oz and 20.5".

He is positive for downs syndrome. He is relatively healthy and I'm not looking for pity. It's weird all the reactions from family, when you first let everyone know. I doubt he'll ever play sports but will always be special.

For those of you that want to use the retard word, that's fine, but if one day I go off on you for doing so,I hope you understand.

one of my best friends has a down's boy. i'm not gonna kid you, the first 5-8 years are tough. but he's fucking awesome and he makes his parents and his older brother so happy. congratulations.

Congrats and good thoughts your way. A very good friend of mine had his second child- a daughter with Downs about 17 years ago.

He was overwhelmed at first... Which quickly gave way to overjoyed.

His FB pic yesterday was riding a motorcycle thru Germany with his daughter on board ... She's awesome.

Congrats InTenSity! Good thing he's going to have an adorable big sis to show him the ropes. Enjoy the first few years and keep your patience as best you can. Two kids can be challenging and much different than one. At least you've got a place to vent!

She hasn't met him yet. Hard to get immunization papers over the weekend from a Dr office. The baby is in the nicu. She should meet him tomorrow, if everything goes well. If he had to stay another day we'll get the papers faxed over.

Like give it some effort, then double it, and then multiply that by 30 or so. Schedule time for both you and your wife separately and together to spend just with her, as difficult as that may be.

Kids going to open up doors for you that you never knew were closed. In all my time coaching camps at MSU, I never saw a father as close to a kid as Norm Parker was with his son. There will be a special bond, I guarantee it. Once said that Jeff taught him more about himself and how to be a human being then anyone in his life.

We knew prior, probably about 4 months ago. Still, there is a part that goes for 'normal', now I'm just hoping for healthy and few complications.

Yours are same age. Much different when you have one coming in a few years after the other, as you mention. Babies require lots more attention than 3 or 4 year olds. Lots. You can tell them tough deal with it (basically the approach we took) and now I can't leave them alone in a room for fear he will squeeze her head like an over ripe melon.
