It's one of the things that I've always hated about State of the Union or other joint session addresses. The President's party stands up and applauds after nearly every fucking sentence, and the opposing party sits there grumpily. Makes the damn speech last twice as long as it should. Every year, regardless of president, same shit. It's stupid by both.

I was kind of hoping that with all the outrage at Trump this year that maybe it would turn into something like you see in the British Parliament when the opposition is standing up and screaming and shouting at the PM or whoever else is speaking. At least that's somewhat entertaining.
