Other than the mortgage debt, I'm way below all the other ones. I feel better. I hate paying any interest on anything. I'm trying to figure out how to take out a $17k loan for windows that will be around 5-6%, without having to touch 401k or home equity.

Use home equity. Interest is tax deductible assuming you itemize.

But now you have to remember that the standard deduction is raised. It’s now 24k for a married couple, so if they don’t have itemizations over that, it doesn’t matter.
