The Supreme Court
Kennedy supposedly retiring from Supreme Court next year
If he does that's bad news for the Dems mid term dreams.
the R base will be highly motivated to keep the Senate in R hands to confirm his replacement.

Supposedly according to whom? Cause I'm going to guess that it's just baseless speculation.
In fact, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I'm quite certain that that is just baseless speculation.

would Kennedy be a good source?
He's telling potential clerks for that year that he may retire. On a couple of SC blogs today.

I mean, you're the one who said that Kennedy was the source when it wasn't. Sorry to have pointed that inaccuracy out for you.
So, baseless speculation. Cool. Sounds like you're having one of your Supreme Court fanfic moments. Let me know when he actually retires and we can have more discussion about it.

Now Hot Air is up with more sourcing....and check the time stamps before flapping your jaw that I was "parroting" them....

NPR: Kennedy Telling Clerk Applicants He May Retire Next Year
After that, though, all bets are off. NPR reported over the weekend in a profile on Kennedy that he warned applicants for clerk positions that may not be around for the 2018-19 term — meaning that his retirement could come shortly before the midterm elections:

The Clarence Thomas Takeover
There is much good news for the future of America in this article. Anything that triggers 2 Slate writers like this signals good things to come.

In an era in which former clerks seem, on balance, to be drifting away from Washington jobs, a whole lot of members of the old Thomas crew are moving back home. It’s near impossible to count every former Supreme Court clerk who is now playing a role in the sprawling executive branch, but it’s easy to see that an enormous number of Thomas protégés are stepping into positions of immense power. Every expert we spoke to, among them the New Yorker’s Jeffrey Toobin, agreed the Trump administration has brought on a striking number of Thomas clerks.
At the precise moment in which the more than 120 vacancies on the federal courts may be the only reason for conservatives to hold their noses and stand by Trump, it’s Clarence Thomas who stands as a living embodiment of wars already won and triumphs yet to come.

Interesting that Watergate Icon Sam Ervin spoke and voted against Thurgood Marshall - in fact 10 of 11 NO votes were Dems. Tell me again about the "Southern Strategy" dating to 1964?
50 years ago Marshall to the Supreme Court
50 years ago Marshall to the Supreme Court
37 Democrats and 32 Republicans voted for Marshall. 10 of the 11 negative votes were Democrats. The other negative was Strom Thurmond. One of the negative votes came from Senator Sam Ervin, who spoke for over an hour. Here's how the NYT put it:

Republicans don't like being called racist when slave holding states are deep red. They then blame democrats for being the party of the KKK which is true, yet it seems to fly over their heads that the party shift from time to time. Somehow the entire confederate population somehow shifted to the north magically and hence Democrats are the true racists.
Now they are jizzing on themselves that they might get another judge thar wants to interpret moden day society with a stance that we still live in the 1700's. Which is fine but makes no sense to me.

Re: The Supreme Court
The history of party realignments in American politics is obviously very relevant to this discussion, and is well documented in the literature on American politics.
Most relevant to this discussion is the 1932 realignment. I am surprised, if not shocked, that the 1932 realignment or realignments in general are not mentioned in any of Loose's 3,000 books.

The Emancipation Proclamation, or Proclamation 95, was a presidential proclamation and executive order issued by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863.
And Turtleneck, the obtuse statement was not mine, but the original post, claiming all southerners and Republicans are racists.

Actually I said they dont like being called racist. I merely pointed out that they then rebuttal with well the democrats are the KKK, missing the point that the party's shift over time. Both are ridiculous statements that don't look at shifts over time by parties. I wasn't calming southerners are racist or republicans currently are, only calming some interpretation of history as a defense mechanism when in reality they don't need to. However every time I'm in the south and I hear the war or Nothern aggression I try not to roll my eyes.

Re: The Supreme Court
All republicans who are not actively seeking to get Trump and the rest of the racists out of their party are at the very least okay with racism and rampant corruption.
They are unamerican and prefer to "win" rather than be anything but deplorable. If you are actively writing your congresspersons and asking them to fight against Mr. Trump's tyranny, abuse of executive power, and corruption, guess what? You get a pass. If all you're doing is arguing with people about "not ALL republicans", guess what? You are the problem.

Read up on the emancipation proclamation a little and you'll find out why you're hilariously wrong.
Or don't whatever I don't give a shit. But fyi- that didn't free the slaves.
